Vray spot lights?
-
Hey y'all, here comes a stupid 'Doh!' moment, I can just feel it.
I'm trying to help someone out but I do not have Vray for SU, only for Max, so anyway he needs to add spot lights to a scene and he only has omni and rectangular lights as options.Anyone confirm this and have a solution?
-
Yup. Current version only have omni and rectangle. You'd have to create your own spot from an omni.
But the beta currently have the addition of spot and IES. Good things to come!
-
Ah, so no 'Doh!' moment.
Can you give me a quick idea of how to create a spot please?
thanks.
-
Make a cone and place an omni inside. That's direct the light into one direction, and shape depending on the shape of the cone and position of the omni.
-
Makes sense, but will the cone not be visible?

ah, yes. that is true. You can't make it invisible.
-
Thanks for the help, It's always difficult to help someone when you either not at your PC or you do not have the app they need help with.
Thomas, are you part of the Vray 2 beta team?
-
Yup! And it's looking really really good.

New Lights!
Well, we've said "We don't plan on adding any new features" time and time again... but that doesn't mean a few features didn't creep in when...

It's not VfSU 2 - though, it might as well be so, cause they've thrown in a bunch of new stuff anyhow.
-
hmm, so this is the Max version?
-
Pete, I think he's saying these are going to be added as an update release for the current version of VfSU. Hopefully it's a free update.

No, it's a rewrite of V-Ray for Sketchup. It will make VfSU available on OSX.
Among other things that are improved: group/component materials is no longer an issue. Images can be rendered without being exploded. And I've not even mentioned the list of new cool stuff. Think might have to make a post about this.
-
Ah, blond moment.
Sounds fantastic, if money was not so tight and Christmas so close I would be seriously considering getting Vray, I've been thinking about it for two years now.

Well, the next version still got quite a bit of work. And it'll be different beast than the current.

Thomas,
Any parsing improvements for the future?

Yes! Yes oh yes! breakthrough yesterday actually.
As I mentioned earlier, materials on groups/components are no longer an issue. They don't make VfSU spend an insane amount of time parsing. And they doesn't ruin the smoothing of surfaces either.
Groups no longer disappear either. -
Great news! That was the one thing that was really in need of desperate fixing. Nothing is more productive than being able to perform myriads of 20 sec. test renders.
-
Brilliant, all the issues that most users of vfsu have been bitching about.
I need to make a carboard sign 'will work for Vray'
-
do you know anything about the transparent material problem?
thx
