Guide Lines disappear
-
I have a similar problem with 7.1. If I generate a guideline in one part of the model then move to another part of the model about 100m along the guideline I cannot zoom in to the guideline at all or it disappears. If I zoom in where I created the guide line I can zoom right in close. I have to double-click on the guideline with the tape measure tool at the far point so it creates a second guideline and I can then zoom in.

I get the problem, usually when zoomed in close.

I am on a Mac and experience this glitch often. Sometimes it can be almost impossible to get the guide lines to reappear without changing the view so much that I can't get the snaps I need.
I have noticed, too, that guide lines will appear to float above or below a line that they are on, which can be disconcerting and confusing and usually results in me erasing the line and adding a new one, just to be sure .
Cheers, Chuck

Yes I have trouble with guides vanishing when you zoom in too far.
I might add that the guides appear to be locked to the axes - if you switch off axes the guides disappear.
never used to do that in previous versions.

The problem apparently still exits in 8.0 I found your posts after also becoming frustrated that some guidelines I need for constructing geometry keep disappearing.
I'm also having a heck of a time getting the inference engine to work correctly: I'm drawing a circle and the inference tip dialog reports "line" when I'm over the guideline, but after setting the circle, it's clearly parallel to the surface face just behind the guideline and NOT on the guideline as the inference tip reported.
Any word on fixing the disappearing guides?

I am having the same problem and it's very annoying! I'm doing some small-scale work and it's nearly impossible to get the guides to appear unless you are at a complete front view, which makes a push/pull impossible as a second step. Does anyone from Sketchup ever comment on these issues or is it more like a gripe board?

This is a known issue with SketchUp 7.1 that we're keeping an eye on.
So, how's the bug watching? It's only been a bit over 4 years and the bug still keeps appearing. Is there a chance something might be done about it or was that the last word? Just curious ...

Since then, there have been a completely new version and 2 maintenance release of that version already released.
Any fix can only be "delivered" if the users update their programs to the latest versions where they are (or at least might be) fixed.

I still see guide lines disappear in certain scenarios. Doesn't seem to have been fixed.

Same here using SU 8 M2

Well, when we tested v 7.1, there were a couple of "nice" examples but to tell the truth, I don1t get this on my computer (or maybe not noticeably frequently to bother me).

I'm getting this on version 8.0.3117 and its a real pain the arse!!!! soon as I zoom in to close bye bye goes the guide.

Hi Just wondered if this issue is being resolved
Thanks

Good news! I found that my video card needed an updated driver and that I was using a prior release SU-- seems as though I'd downloaded the update file but had not yet run it.
The guidelines seem to remain in place and I can create them without them disappearing although sometimes I still need to adjust the magnification in order to see them as I zoom in. -
This is still an issue with my install of SU8 MR5

Still a huge problem in Sketchup 2013. It is making my life miserable.

Hello, This issue hasn't been resolved as far as I can tell. I wonder if it's related to video cards. I'll take a look around here and see if there's another thread.
Oh, and I also have the issue of guidelines disappearing as I'm trying to apply them--
eg. I click on a rectangle with the tape measure tool, pull it in a direction, then type 2.71875 (2 23/32") and the guideline goes off into the ether. Where did it go?As for the more common issue of guidelines disappearing once there are in place, sometimes rotating your view helps, as does decreasing your depth of field with the magnifying tool.
My wager is we might see more sages try to offer solutions, Trimble might just fix it in another release (Google could not), and we'll never really know until it does actually work.
EDIT 8.25.13 Getting great support and feedback so far from Trimble-- and 2013 seems to be more stable than 8. Still some bugs to work out but it's getting better.

Having a similar problem here. It started while trying to draw a triangle onto a flat surface to copy/flip/paste as the basis of a dormer on a house. After laying out the coordinates with Tape Tool, I drew out the first right triangle. The guides shifted as though it was slightly under the surface, and fazed in and out as I navigated. When I attempted to copy, the entire surface was highlighted. This is an enclosed geometry issue. I sent all layers to the default and attempted again to confirm. Same problem. I then noticed that the guide was shifting not just in and out of view, but to the left and right of the line drawn onto the guide.
The issue seems to be progressive. I just upgraded from A 8800GTS 512m to a 650ti 2g about 2 weeks ago and have completed about 15 projects maxing at about 6000kb. This only begun last week, and is occuring in the begining of the project at about 2000kb.
