      I agree with Gaieus.

Forget about Vitruvius!! lolol the ten books are greatly overrated. ๐Ÿ˜†

Its a great source for understanding ideal roman architecture, but it has a lot of trouble when applied to real life and real buildings
The books are really poorly written, Greek mixed with Latin, invented words, missing parts, no mention of engaged columns and orders..... some buildings described are impossible to build because he sets contradictory rules and proportions, the list of mistakes goes on and on...,
And like Gaieus pointed out the books were written in the start of Augustus reign, the empire lasted for 400 years after that!

Its really hard to find a roman building that fits in Vitruvius understanding of rules and proportions. Like for example the Panteon! does it fit Vitruvius? no way...
The Ten Books are just a set of principles for ideal architecture, donยดt try and fit everything in it. ๐Ÿ˜„

Post Scriptum: Great images, can you show us more???

I agree with you. Vitruvius should be used to understand some basic principles.

For example, for values of intercolumniation: Vitruvius gives us values such as 1.5 d (diameter) for Pycnostyle or 2 d for Systyle.

The architect is free to choose the value which is more harmonious. It can also make an average. This applies to the "square house" of the city of Nimes in France : The values of intercolumniation is an average between Pycnostyle and Systyle.

For column, I am guided by Vitruvius because Vignola's corinthian column seems disproportionate.
The capital is too high and the base too narrow. The height proposed by Vignola is also too high. (Vitruvius also said that for Pycnostyle the height of the column should be 10 d, it is also impossible).

I'll post more images later. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I tried to render L.VII.C's model with Twilight render.

Even without good proportions, is already beautiful!

            Hi Z-Akh69

Your models are great ๐Ÿ‘ . It would be interesting to examine them in 3D mode.
Thank you very much for rendering my forum. So it looks better than it is really ๐Ÿ˜„

              great render!
(@L.VII.C:) The light blots on the base of the column and below the statue on the left could be caused by either totally white (rgb=255,255,255) or untextured faces. Also make sure that the faces show the frontface (in monochrome face style, the blueish color means the backface and white means frontface). I also struggled with this in one of my monastery renders but I'm sure it can be solved ๐Ÿ˜‰ .

I keep my eyes open, because the last thing we need are people. Plebeians and patricians, Cicero and senators... Maybe there are some good movies in tv these days, where I can catch some people...

About the right locations of white faces in monochrome mode, earlier to me has specified pichuneke. Since then I try to avoid mistakes. But unfortunately, in my models a lot of blue faces ๐Ÿ˜ž In this respect completely correctly made only 4 models: tabularium, mausoleums of Augustus and Hadrian and Severus arch. While working on the model of Forum Romanum, I turned the vast majority of blue faces, but surely they still have ๐Ÿ˜ž

                  Hi everyone,

I'm rendering with the demo of Twilight:

                  http://www.twilightrender.com/

Today I worked on the proportions of the Corinthian columns but I am not satisfied with the result.
I finally chose Vignola base while keeping the height prescribed by Vitruvius for the capital.
I removed the bulge and I try to get the right height for the entire column.

I already posted my work here:

                        fantastic!!!
I always wonder from where you get info about the interior design...

By the way (don't take it amiss! it is already more than perfect), if you want to avoid repetition, you can randomly rotate the column components around 90ยฐ or flip them.

Beautiful, the only thing that is missing is the parking lot for the horses and the carriages. ๐Ÿ˜†

I have made some panoramas of my baths of Caracalla in Kerkythea in the same manner as Aerilius has made the panorama of my basilica of Maxentius.

                                      So, the palestra:

                                      The big apse:
                                      [flash=500,400:gryi075y]http://www.you3dview.com/viewer/viewer.swf?xml=http://www.you3dview.com/flvideo/296/viewer.xml[/flash:gryi075y]

                                      The frigidarium:

                                      The main hall:

Ha! Great! ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘ I believe I'm in the real baths of Caracalla. ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

Try a bit to use more material settings: in the material editor, you can give ca. 40% specularity to the columns and the marble. (I also once used 10% reflection, but I'd rather not do that again because it needs much time to calculate).
In addition, the marble textures could be a bit larger and less repeating (If I find something, I'll post it)

And two other ones on the KT forums:

                                          then a nice terrazzo material:

(if only I knew how to deal with procedurals)

                                          Gai...

                                            I tried to render it.
                                            caracalla2.jpg
                                            caracalla1.jpg
Unfortunately my computer was not able to export the model completely. So there are some materials and column capitals missing.
                                            (It stopped after 364 MB xml-file ๐Ÿ˜ฎ )

A really complex and enormous work that you've done. ๐Ÿ‘

If you like, you can have the water and the black marble texture
(I added some procedurals, so there is more texture variation).
In Kerkythea, you can click on "Settings" -> "Materials"
In the Material workshop on the right side on "open" -> "import" -> choose this zip file.
Then you can select a model and a material from the library, right click, "apply to left pane".
