You're trying climbing a moutain here !! It's definitly a nice challenge, but I think that a nurbs modeler like MOI 3D will be more efficient for this model. But I'm far from being a master modeler so let'see if someone now an efficient way to do it in SketchUp.
Juste a ling to MOI for info : http://moi3d.com/
I'll give it a try tonight.
Cheers.

Thanks guys- i am on a Mac so this program doesn't help me. I could use it in Parallels, but I really want to use SU for this. I have all the extensions you could ever need for this and i am inspired by the organic models i've seen here.

I don't have time to search the thread out for you but simon le bon had a thread going about gothic panels, that might offer some insight. Sorry gotta run to work.

thanks dale and gaieus- i'll check it out.

Well I'm at work now, and dug up this old file. It was imported into SketchUp as a dxf file from a cad drawing. I had it in Vectorworks, but I can't remember the actual source, sorry.
I guess if anything it shows it can be done one way or the other, and it wouldn't surprise me if some of the talent on this forum could accomplish it in SketchUp.
May be a good challenge.

May be a good challenge.Thanks- i hope to be one such talent once I can figure this out... i have a few ideas now- will post whatever i come up with.

i think it's possible but if your goal is to get the geometry very clean, be prepared to spend a whole day on the leaf(?) alone..
here's a hacked up version just to see how it might work (and i'm not even sure if it's supposed to look like this.. got a picture?)
gotta run for now but i can show you the basics later tonight if this is the type of shape you're after...

here's the basic idea behind my approach..
Thank Jeff- i'm having a look at it right now.. i wish i had a photo, but no luck. This looks very close to what i'm after...
Update:
Okay, okay- i can see where this can go.. i am prepared to spend as much time on this as necessary. I must know it! Back to it- thanks for the starting point!
