Bing vs Google
-
The pics not quite as clear as id hoped, but SCF isnt in the bing results whereas its 2nd in the google results.
-
SCF is 2nd with bing and 3rd with Google.
-
I was searching for the more generic 'sketchup forum' rather than sketchucation, better reflects what someone searching for a sketchup forum would use, i think.
-
I still prefer google, but i agree that it throws up some erroneous results at times. As for measuring one against the other here's where i compare they're results
Much the same as the site you mention, just got a nicer ring to it!
http://bingle.pwnij.com/ try this if above link fails
-
I can understand most folk prefering Google as it's been the staple for so long and generally most folk do not like change, heck I have been using Google search from 1998, before Google I used Altavista (never did use or like Yahoo)
Try Bing for an image search, it really is cleaner and easier to find what you are looking for.
The world is a changing place, soon we will be using Google OS's and MS searches..
-
Changing is appropriate word.
I heard Bill Gates was considering running for Presidency? I don't fancy seeing a Government crash and have to be rebooted 6 times a day and we won't even contemplate the 'Security Issues'
-
hmm...
Seems like everyone likes to Vilify Bill Gates, I dunno but I think he gets a bad rap, compare him to say Steve Jobs, they both have these huge empires yet Steve who is more aggressive gets passed on frequently and Bill who does so much philanthropic work is the devil.

I fully agree with you here, Pete...
It seem as if it's somekind of "popular" to dislike Bill Gates, although he have actually made some very impressive work - and continue to do so... -

Bing imho just looks and feels like Yahoo, and then there is all that Hotmail and MSN rubbish at the top of the screen too.
I just did a search for Youtube on Bing, and it gave me an alternative, and nothing but. Being a (mainly) Macuser, I suppose I am a little biased though? -
I agree, you are being biased, I did a you tube search also and I got only you tube.
-
...and nothing remotely close to yahoo looking, if anything yahoo and google look more alike.
-
I just gave a search for my full name, and bing found the most results, it even searched in comments on the 3d warehouse, bing a page of results and google half a page.
I'm still gonna use google though, at least for now. I'm sure a little competition will do google a world of good. -
Yeah, every time google has a competitor try to out do them, the competitor will always end up losing.

More results does not mean better results, I find Google search has more crap than fact in it's results.
IIRC sites can be built/worded in such a manner that they will be pulled up by a search engine even though they may have little to do with what you were actually searching for - like the sites that when you Googled "stupid" (or whatever the word was) and it pulled up then President George Bush's webpage first.
Wait until these same people figure out how to make Bing pull up their junk first too, and then it'll be just like Google.

I completely agree. I work with 2 Mac evangelist fundamentalists. It really is like a religion that they follow regardless, and can't see any of the hipocrasy or inconsistencies in their leaders "think different" teachings. Part of their religion is to deride every pc user they meet. They think of themselves as great pioneers of freedom, "I don't want any part of microsofts evil empire, blah... blah... blah..." Snore. Obviously, like all evangelists as opposed to the moderates, they aren't doing anything that in any way credits using a mac over a pc, apart from loving it when people in cafes say "ooh nice computer".

Apple has done wonders for its image, kudos to their marketing department. Having a very stable, modestly powerful, well thought out platform helps a lot too.
Just like you said though, Apple is still, by far, the most tight fisted of the two.
Why does Apple look better? 1) Oooh, shiny! 2) They didn't release Win2K, WinME, Vista, or any other operating system that had to get massive patches (service packs) or fixes for big security loopholes. Couple #2 with people forking out hundreds of dollars for a supposedly new-and-better operating system, and that makes for a bad rap.
-
You seem to have made this a Mac vs PC thing, I was talking about Bill Gates, not the Microsoft operating system.
Another thing, why do folks always mention the hardware appearance of a Mac when comparing Windows which is an operating system? Is the Mac OS not strong enough to stand on it's own so needs to be reinforced by the sleek appearance of it's hardware to cement it's superiority?
How many folk would be here today (on forum using a personal computer) if it was not for Windows 95?Anyway, this is a no win debate, about as win-able as a Republican vs Democrat debate in the states, however I do believe one learns from ones mistakes and think Windows 7 will bear the fruits of many exagerated mistakes.
