is there a way of drawing free hand in SU? The standard free hand drawing tool breaks the curves up into a few straight edges.

Is there a way of stopping SU from doing this so you get a higher poly curve?

or is there already a plugin that does this? sometimes you just wanna scribble something but you end up with loads of straight lines.

I'll have a new freehand tool in my 2D drawing set - it should be ready soon...

hmmm, what I'd give for a tool that will allow me to draw freely in SU using a tablet.

yes exactly pete. this is why i was requesting it.

also imagine 'tools on surface' with true freehand

TIG...sounds good, im guessing it will solve the SU 'faceting' issue?

Tools on Surface includes a Freehand tool, but as everything in Sketchup, it is based on segments. Of course you can still smooth the contour by converting it to a Spline (like F-spline), where you can set the precision parameter.

In ToolsOnSurface 1.5, I have added a Point & Click mode for more accurate capture without inferences. Preview with the enclosed video.

No, that video was a little teaser.

My 2D Freehand tool is constrained in the Z-plane and you can set the segment length dynamically in the VCB - default is 1" - 12" will give very faceted edges and 0.1" very smooth edges - but with 'jitters' if your hand shakes !

looking forward to it TIG. exactly what I wanted!! I got no idea how you guys make these rubies but i am forever thankful.

yes I understand now fredo, the freehand with TOS depends largely on SU geometry/segments. that new 1.5 version looks amazing. i take it you haven't released it yet?
