Vray for SU

Hi all,
I'm fairly new with VfSU and have been experiencing some technical difficulties. I've been putting together some renders for some clients and have been having trouble with lighting. If you look at the attached photo you will notice that I am getting some random illumination coming from behind the fireplace. There isn't any lights, nor is there any materials with emissive properties. I am thinking that the light behind there is being caused by the sun light but don't know why because there aren't any breaks in the walls or anything. Also, when I remove the fireplace entirely, there is no lighting problems what so ever.
Has anyone experienced something like this? or does anyone have an idea as to what I might to do cure this problem?

Steve, I'd like to help but I no longer have Vray (trial ended), can you show a screenshot of the SU model? I may get a better idea of what is affecting it by that, I suspect the one spot closest to fireplace maybe.

It's hard to say. Could be the material on the outside of the fireplace bouncing some of the rays to the wall. Could be a misplaced light intended to light the fire. Could just be a quirk. I would experiment a good bit with things like moving the fireplace slightly further from the wall, mess with the material settings, look through the outliner and make sure there is not an errant light some where, play with the fresnel value of the window glass....etc. You could always post the model as well and have someone else give it a try on their computer and see if that helps. It's hard to determine a cause without knowing settings and seeing the scene fully.

Does the wall have thickness?
If not try adding it. Might help.
Light leak through a single face wall is a fairly common problem in many 3d apps. -

Solo, thanks for the quick response. The file of the model is actually at work, so I will have to get you a screen shot sometime tomorrow, when I go in.

Could the bounce be strong enough to reflect off that much light? is there a way that I would be able to add a decay?
Secondly, I will look if there is a misplaced light, but I'm pretty sure there isn't. I also, experimented rather quickly, removing the fireplace and the weird lighting wasn't present. At 1st I thought it might of been something with the way the fireplace was intersecting with the wall (they are both blocks and edges of the fireplace was coming through the wall to the other side) so I just intersected the model with the interior wall and just deleted the excess material. I had also checked the materials to make sure I didn't have any emissive properties and there was none.

Thanks for the input people it is highly appreciated. I will get some screen shots and possibly the model for you all to take a look at, hopefully sometime tomorrow.

steve, if you need a quick feedback, i think its easier to get in the main asgvis.com forum..
my guess really those lights are not light leak, but rather reflected or bounced lighting plus color bleed from your surface behind the fireplace. you see your sun light is coming from behind and lighting partly that area. so surely reflected lighting or bledding will occur. at the moment suvray does not support vray override materials like in max, but desaturating your ir will help.

I think adding more light to your scene and maybe turning down the burn value in your color mapping settings may help...try a value of .5 and see what you come up with.

Ok everyone, so I have been working on the renders here at the office and I think that I pinpointed the problem. Under the sky material for the environment map, I accidently changed the Shadow Bias from 0 to 32, instead of changing the Shadow Subdivisions from 8 to 32. :X Oh well, its fixed now. I will upload pictures of the fixed renders when I finish them. Thanks for all the input!!!
