Layout and Snow Leopard

Everything (the SU PRO - Layout connection and editing) was working fine
THEN installed Snow Leopard

NOW Su works ok,
BUT when I "send to Layout" Layout opens for a template to be selected then crashes (closes) once it's selected

In Layout, if I try to "edit 3d model" or "open with SU" again it crashes/closes. Other functions seem ok

So, any ideas - is it something to do with Snow Leopard? (only change I've made on my Mac)

As far as I heard, other also have problems with Snow Leopard and LayOut (so you are not alone). I guess it will be fixed but (especially as a PC user) I cannot recommend a prompt fix right now.

We are working on fixes for about 3 issues, but we had to wait until the final shipping version was out. Here's what doesn't work:

Thumbnails for templates and for styles (in SketchUp Model Inspector) rendor not at all or incorrectly. I've observed a crash from repeatedly selecting one, but could never reproduce it. If you have a crash, could you copy the call stack (or get it from ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter and file a bug via the Help->Contact Us link in LayOut? Thanks.
Context menus are crashing. Workaround: try (it's hard, but really try) not to right click for a context menu in LayOut. This one crashes every time.
A console warning that's inconsequential.

We're currently testing fixes internally and will get them to you when we're confident in them. Let me know if any of these workarounds don't work for you, or if you've observed other issues that our Snow Leopard testing did not reveal. Thanks.

I found this link related to Snow Leopard and contextual menus. It "smells" a bit like advertising but explains some of the backgrounds maybe (note that I cannot make sure what's true in the Mac world as I use PC).

Down in FLAMES! is the best description for how Layout is working in Snow Leopard on my system.
Over the past couple of months I have had some significant crashing issues for SU pro9 but Layout has performed flawlessly - until now.
Layout opens, lets me create a new template and allowed for the importing of a SU file, but the moment an attempt to edit that SU occurs - ZAP! Layout closes. I even attempted to directly cut and paste a Sketchup model into Layout (an activity I have had success with before). The moment I "paste" Layout crashes. Hmmm! very annoying,

Yup, note "PopUpMenuSelectCore" in the stack... we're aware of this, are testing a solution and as I said, we couldn't release before Apple shipped. We'll try to get this in the hands of folks as soon as we're sure we're not going to cause other problems with a fix and make your life worse.

Hi all,

Layout 2 works perfectly for me in SL...

Right / Context clicking works perfectly,
Rotating model works fine.

Thumbnails in Styles are a bit weird, but I never touch those.

I've been working on quite complex presentations pulling in images / pdfs / jpegs / SU files and have had very little problems... not more than the usual random crashes...

This morning, though, I repeatedly crashed LO by trying to move a layer onto another layer, but quickly found a workaround: cut it, pasted it it on new layer...

I'm on an iMac, SU Pro 7, LO 2...

We use SU+Layout a lot at my small office. (For architecture.) We made the mistake of installing Snow Leopard on all of our machines, which means Layout is now useless. This is slowing our work down by a lot. Looks like we'll have to go back to Leopard for the time being. I hope a fix isn't far away?!

I am almost pretty sure they are already working on something. When Leopard came out and caused major problems in SU, they made some fixes and released a new subversion just for the Mac within a couple of weeks.

It's still amazing however how a new OS can screw up applications (it was the same with Vista on PC when it came out totally unsupported by hardware drivers for instance)

Never do this. If you have several machines and you depend on them for work, install any new upgrade or patch or fix or 'improvement' or new app on one and only one machine and then test it. Then, if you're confident it is ok, deploy to the rest of the machines. If you only have a single machine.... don't do that. By comparison to potential lost income a secondary spare machine is nothing.

OK, is there any way to persuade LO to update from a changed SU file without using a context menu? I can't see one- not even by hooking up a shortcut key.

I know it's tedious but if you go to Document setup (wherever you open that window on the Mac - on PC it's under the File menu) > References > Update button (at the bottom) it does update it for me.

Maybe this can also be the way to find out how to set up the shortcut?

Ya, just stumbled across that. It certainly does the job OK, which solves the immediate problem. In the shortcuts listing you only get to open that dialogue though, not use any of it's commands. I imagine there might be a way to access it via Ruby but I'm not really interested in digging down there right now.

I'm n ot sure you can use ruby for LO U(at this point at least).

But I think the development team will soon find out something (this is always the case with new OS X issues).
