You should bevel some more edges if your laptop can handle it, its always a pain when you want to go further but your computer wont let you!
Those electrical wires on top are great that must have taken forever! You 'HAVE' to render this you know.

When I used to use my old PC to model I had the same problem I got around it by making the whole model in about 10 different files then assembled them like a jigsaw to render usually in another app. Its troublesome and takes a long time but it gives good results. Anyway models still look great keep it up!

Getting ever closer to finishing, trouble now is every time I look at the model I see something more to add ....and the poly don't stop growing

As finished as it is going to be (gotta draw a line in the sand sometime) only thing that i will still do is "paint" it in some or other railroad's livery
                                Enjoy....

Hi dolf, awesome stuff so far, I noticed you experienced high poly problems. When I see the hidden geometry, such as in this image.

                                        http://i458.photobucket.com/albums/qq304/dolphus_006/assembler2.png

                                        Here are some tips:

                                        • Lower segment count a LOT e.g: default 24 to 10 or 12. arc 12 to 4 or 3 (except you want to render)
                                        • Use layers to organize the model; works way faster for me
                                        • Those steps could be double-coloured single faces; lower the poly a lot

Well, those are just my two cents ๐Ÿ’ญ

                                        Windows 7 64-bit, Intel Core i3 M350 @2.27GHz, nVidia GEFORCE 310M 512Mb with CUDA, 4gb RAM

Thanks for the advice Ultimatez 32 i must admit that i have not seriously tried to master layers yet so this i will attend to but as to the low segment count in curves i am often tempted to go the other way 60 segments to a circle for the sake of "realism" ....... it is a failing that i have also getting rig of unseen geometry is somthing that i am very reluctant to do Example remove the left side of the loco if it is viewed from the right...but thanks i can see that you know my delimma
