[Plugin] SectionCutFace

@TIG,
Thank you SO much for your awesome plug-in. I love using it and it saves me a great deal of time.
However, since upgrading to SketchUp 2014 (I'm on a Mac), I have noticed some instability at times. Have you encountered any such problems?
Thanks again!
Please advise what issues, I see none, but you might have something I can replicate...
I have seen a minor occasional issue with v2014 where a newly made group's contents are not visible until you select it and edit, then everything adjust OK.
I have trapped for this in some other tools, but not SCFace - perhaps that's it ?? -
It doesn't seem to do with newly made groups and what you were referring to. To be more specific, it seems to crash when I open an existing file (with SectionCutFace items), or have a file already open and open an additional file. I noticed you're using Windows so perhaps it's a Mac issue?

Thia has been reported in another thread a few days agao.
It has been traced to SCFace [and probably other plugins adding/removing observers], it is a known issue with v2014 on some MACs - in PMs yesterday I was assured that Trimble are looking to address this.
Oddly I can't get it to happen on my MAC
Meanwhile I am looking to recast SCFace to side-step the issue.
Hopefully I will issue a glitch-proofed updated version sometime today...

Here is v4.5 http://sketchucation.com/pluginstore?pln=SectionCutFace
Its observers have now been adjusted to prevent the splats reported by a very few MAC+Mavericks users...
A known issue with v2014MR0 that will hopefully be addressed in a future MR...Please test and report any further issues in this thread...

When will this be updated to work with 2014???
Thanks -

ThanksSome hours BEFORE your post, see TIGs announcement directly above your post?!

It was actually updated to work with v2014 some MONTHS ago.
Since then it has worked fine on all versions for ALL PCs and most MACs - but unfortunately a recently reported occasional splat issue with its observers for some v2014 MACs+Mavericks has required a rewrite - hence the latest version issued yesterday -

Will give it a whirl (can't live without this plug-in anyways...) and let you know if I experience any issues!

Thanks TIG for the update!!
I have made the Spanish Language translation. Here the file:

Thanks Oxer.
I'll include your ES strings file in future updates... meanwhile users can simply put your strings file into the ../SectionCutFace/Strings folder -
I have just downloaded the plugin but it doesn't appear on my windows sketchup.
Someone please help.

TIG, is technically possible to make SectionCutFace ruby tool by polyline? revit-like void tool?
or, it's far beyond? -

Let us assume you have installed it properly - either by installing it from its RBZ archive or by using the SCF AutoInstall button - [i.e. in the Plugins folder there is now a .rb file and a folder of the same name - 'SectionCutFace']...
AND that its Extension is activated...Please read the Plugins usage notes accessed under More Info, where it is clearly detailed...
It only ever appears in the context-menu, AND it only appears there IF you have just one Section-Plane Selected...

In SketchUp, to make a complex cut you have to group parts and use various Section-Planes... There's no tool to temporarily cut your model along a polyline - even destructive Zorro2 needs a single plane to slice along...If your object is a 'solid' you could copy it to another layer and create another solid group with the appropriate face extruded from the polyline.
Then use Pro's Solid-Tools 'Subtract' to leave what's desired

Hi, I've installed SectCutFace and added it as an extension to for my 2014 Skp Make. It is under the plugins folder. But no matter what I try to do, it doesn't seem to work. I've chosen On-Demand, Hide-Edges, Keep All, and I select only one section plane. The plane is on its own SCUT layer and the group is in its own layer. I've also tried making the SCUT layer the same as the group layer but without success. I'm working in scenes. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Can you post [attach] a small SKP containing the object[s] and section-plane that you want to SectionCutFace...
With any other supporting details you think will help us resolve this. After running this Plugin...
What shows in the Outliner ?
Is the specified SectionCutFace Layer switched ON ?
Remember that the SectionCutFace in created in the same context as the section-plane.
Therefore objects outside of that context which are not cut by the section-plane do not get included in the SectionCutFace either
Is that your 'issue' ??Works fine for me and many thousands more, so there must be something simple that you are not doing correctly

Hi, great plugin! but.....is there a way to invert the section that is black?...in some cases it paint black a room instead of the cut wall, thanks!
-
As explained in the tool's notes...
It's not foolproof.
If your cut objects are neatly made solids it can usually deduce which cut parts are to be faced, but if several forms intersect/overlap then it tries to work out which are the faced parts, sometimes it gets it wrong. To manually fix a messed up set...
You can make it unlocked [or unlock the SCUT group later], also in the options keep all lines and do not hide edges...
Now when you edit the group you can select any incorrectly added face and <delete> it.
To add back a missing face, in the edit draw over an appropriate edge and it should re-face...
If it does not form, then in the edit try an 'AddFaces' type of plugin, used on selected edge[s]... -
Hello TIG,
I cant make it work on my SU 8, is that normal?

No, it should work in v8.
How does it not work??
Remember it's a context-menu only tool if you have one section-plane selected...
