      😳

I've added it now. I think I erased it while doing some minor editing.....sorry!

Here's two other ones about Wave. First is live colaborative editing:
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ykZYKCK7AM&feature=channel_page
and the natural language processing, which is AWESOME!

That was a long presentation! However Wave looks very interesting. I liked the ability to chat in two different languages using 'rosy' the robot.

Yep Mike, looks like Wave is going to replace SCF.

personally im not sure about that, at least in the near term. Wave seems a lot more suited to fast communication between a few people, whereas the forum format makes more sense to me for larger scale communication between thousands of people.

I wish Google would work just as hard on the next release of Sketchup.

Impressive…but maybe too clever for its own good. I can see its usefulness for group project work; but there are already progs out there that handle mark-up etc pretty well.

I’m reserving my judgement on the social networking aspect. Most people actually like clear boundaries and being able to compartmentalize stuff. This seems almost so wide open that you can’t touch the walls. It leaves you feeling a little lost in its own vastness...easy to lose sight of exactly who it is you're communicating with.
It’s a little analogous with all the SU plugins. There’s now one to handle almost anything…but most people limit themselves to about a dozen…because by the time you’ve found/recalled any others and then remembered how they work, you could have done the thing manually.

That first review was a little bit on the hard side. Whatever the guy thinks, the facts still remains that Google is one hell of large and profitable company. And if they want to blow their trumpets, well its ok by me. They still are a godsend to many people, free GSU?

                    Thanks Chris, for the info.

I was looking for a tool similar to FreeMind ('small databases in a form of a tree') that would allow multiple users to edit a map in the same time.

It looks like it could be possible to employ the Wave to control a map, since it is XML based!

I think the Wave is\will be very interesting tool for a collaboration in larger groups, communities and companies.
I hope we will see soon a 'gadget' for the Wave supporting the FreeMind.

They gave ou accounts to everyone who attended the conference, so we will all be able to log in and play with waves in the next day or two. And the programming API is open already and they gave quite a few demos throughout the day about how to use write wave applications and extensions. They really wanted to have a good amount of apps developed for it when it launches publicly in a few months.

It should be interesting to see how this plays out through the rest off the year. Will it take off in a MAJOR way and start dominating the world quickly? Or will it take a few years? Or does it fall flat?

I doubt it falls flat, but I'm not sure how fast it takes off and how quickly it gets incorporated into existing sites.

I think it will work. it is an extension of XMPP (as GoogleTalk is an extension of XMPP for voice and media) so it will be "easy" to bring more power to it.

I saw others doing something similar but they didn't make it open source, didn't have Google impact and it was too early to catch up.

Time will tell, but I will definitely play with it as it mixes with some projects of mine - so less work for me 😉

One thing I dislike, if I understood the technology right, that all info is stored on a central server and accessible only through a browser. It is not a good solution for private e-mails, because they will sit on the server all the time. Is it intended to work on a 'central' Google server the way as gmail is or would it be possible to install 'Wave' on every single server as PHP, MySQL and similar tools?

Wave is designed as an open source protocol. I don't know exactly how it has to be installed, but they showed some real examples of it working in twitter and blogger right now.

I know its not all stored on a single central google server. They gave an example where different companies design their own wave applications and install them on their own servers. So perhaps 2 people from each of 3 companies are all on one wave together. If the 2 people on server 1 send a private wave to eachother inside the main wave, thier private wave never even leaves their server.

That's all I remember though. I don't know exactly what it all means. And they have not yet validated my account, so I have not been able to play with it yet. But Todd, Rick and I will all test our "wave" skills when they get us registered.
