great model ideed. I am looking forward to the rendered images. especially with an HDRI environment map these shiny surfaces will look amazing (I assume you will use some sort of car paint finish?)...

Hi guys, im the other guy thats working on this project. Thanks for the warm welcome. Here is an update on some details that are currently being applied.

Thanks for the great welcome!
I think we will use some sort of carpaint, but were far from experienced on the texturing and rendering part. We know that a good render can make the biggest differences. (right now we are fealing the preshure of time, we want to use this modle when we app for a school)Any tips or comments are welcome.

Dummyer / Bagar - really sweet design and model. Personally, I'd like to see it in a more dynamic pose, and with some really weathered, battle-damaged textures. (but perhaps that's just me). Some really interesting textures could actually save you needing to go into insane detail with the modelling. Either way, I think you've got the makings of something really special, and I look forward to seeing where you take it
Andy.

You should export into another 3d program for animation, look at blender its also free! You say you want to use this model to apply for school what is it you want to study? If its 3d design you should look at learning a few other programs that are better for modelling?

My wishes are to show that I have an interest in learning how to model. I learned really fast what I could do in sketchup and used it to be shure I got the results I was aiming for. And I know how far away I am from being a pro artist but I needed to start somewhere and felt good to start with the simple sketchUp tools. I want to enter the school to learn about the โreal stuffโ, from basic to Infiniti.
Iโm currently taking my time in Zbrsuh and 3ds. I will not stick my head in one place and think Iโll be fine. Iโm approaching this late, but no dreams are too late to follow.IL give blender a try when this is getting animated. thx for the tips!

We are feeling the time pressure so we won't go in too deep with the renderings. But some glossiness here and some light there and it can still make a nice impression.
We will try to make it more lifelike and pump our skills on how to render stuff later on. For now on Iโm struggling with this render, as SU crashes when vray tries to render big images. -
Great rendering! It adds a whole nother dimension to the model. Great Job man.
-
have a look at Hypershot for the rendering It would do a nice job with this subject matter.

Another test render

Fantastic!!

nice video, dude! it really showcases all the work and detail that has been put into this model. great stuff. I would love to see it in a pale desert or in a city environment (you can find some free hdri maps here).
thank you very much for sharing this. makes me want to lay my hands on SU again and push my personal limit a bit further (not that its that high anyway )

Revealing the mesh.. Do I want to?
The robot is meshed too heavy. I did not want to spend the time I had to make a good mesh for it, just max it out (we had not enough skills in other words). Actually we did not intend to make the whole robot at first. As the project went on we continued using the massive amount of mesh on the parts.
Now Iโm trying to reduce the mesh and use components better.(about 13 times less mesh), thinking about the whole picture and then focus more on better materials and the use of hdri maps and such. The end will probably be to make the thing move, the reduced mesh will really help me outThx for the link plot-paris!
And ofc thanks to all for the nice comments! -
Wow, very impressive design, I love the contrast between the sleek, polished plates, and the 'nasty mechanical bits'.

New pose and some photoshop

!!!! That's Incredible!!!!!
