Basic V-ray Problem

Sorry for the website. We know about the issues and are working them out as quickly as we can.
The manual has not been updated for the most recent versions of VfSU and the options that it is referring to are the ones related to making linked materials. As of VfSU SR1, all of the materials are automatically linked, so there isn't a need to set this up as before. Now any modifications that you do to a SU material are echoed in V-Ray, and any modifications done in V-Ray that SU can understand are echoed to SU as well.

Kind of confusing to say the least - a new version of V-Ray? SketchUp materials and Vray materials are linked?
Hopefully there will be something on your new site soon to explain all this in more detail.
When I open any of the SketchUp Scene Files (CurryPork's link above) I get a splash screen that says something like We Have Made Some Changes to the Way V-Ray Handles SketchUp Materials. Would You Like to Upgrade Now? Or something like that.
When I click Yes, the file creates a backup of the original and then upgrades itself. But then when I go to render the scene (this is the 3 chairs in the tutorial) the program hangs, the render screen doesn't appear and I have to force shut it down. I deleted all of the Scenes, redownloaded them and now I click No when that splash screen appears and everything seems okay.
Doe this suggest I should download V-Ray again? Uninstall and download? Do nothing? I'm using a trial version.
Any input about this would be appreciated.

As to where you can get the most recent User Manual - go to the thread in this forum called ASGVIS Question (right before this one) and scroll down to the links CurryPork provided. The first link is to the Manual.

The original version of VfSU wasn't parsing the scene properly. VfSU SR1.0 does parse everything, but at the cost of longer parsing time.
There is however a few things to dramatically cut down the parsing time:Don't apply materials to groups and components. Apply material to the actual geometry instead. There's a plugin available that will transfer group/component to the actual geometry if you need it. This is a big thing.
Deeply nested components will also cause slowdowns. But not as bad as group/component materials.
Also, you may have noticed with the old V-Ray that groups didn't render all the time. That might still occur in the new version. But now you don't have to explode and regroup. You just need to reopen the file.
Along with the SR1.5 there should be a readme.txt file that describes the changes from the previous version.

So just to get this right
Instead of selecting the group/component and pressing [url]apply colour to object(s)[/url]
You explode or edit the group/component and apply colour to the faces in the group/component.
is that right?I think I may have said group/component one to manytimes and confussed myself.

No need to explode, just remove the material applied to the outside of the group/component and open it up and apply it to the faces inside.
Easy to remember tip: "Paint only faces".

How do you know if material is applied to groups or components, rather than its geometry?
Regarding importing a component from the 3d warehouse or some other means.

When you select an group/component you see in the Entity Info window what material, if any, that's applied.
If you import Warehouse models I'd just run that plugin after importing object.
