Digital Scratch Pad?
-
When I'm working at my computer I always have to have a a piece of paper next to the keyboard to scribble notes or numbers on. The stuff I write down rarely needs to be kept for very long. I had a thought that it would be nice to have something I could erase periodically rather than have to throw away. I thought of a whiteboard but being a lefty, I tend to just smudge those.
Does anyone know of a digital scratch pad sort of thing? I did a serach and found digital clip board sorts of things but they require paper which I want to get away from. I was thingking of a digital version of the old magic slate.

got an iphone by chance?
i use it but it don't think it would be too good for your purpose.. it's awesome for on-site notes or sketching the moment of inspiration you have on the subway..
anyway, point being... apple is supposedly working on a bigger version of the iphone -- more like a laptop which is controlled like the phone.. that would probably be great for what you want though maybe to expensive and powerful to dedicate it as a doodle board..
as of right now though, i don't know of a product to suit your needs.. personally, i like it when i get a chance to actually do some old fashioned scribbling/math etc. with paper and pencil -
Dave,
There are a number of free "Sticky notes" programs on line that I think would give you what you're looking for
This link is to one of them, it is customizable and non entrusive. Just do a Google for " free sticky note software" and you will get a bunch to pick from.
Good luck.

Thanks guys. I'll look at the sticky notes thing but what I was hoping for is something that wouldn't take up screen real estate on my computer and something I could actually write on like the backs of envelopes and other scratch paper I now use. An iPhone or a PDA would be too small. I don't need it to be able to recognize what I write I just want it to place maks on the screen/pad to reflect the strokes of the stylus.
I may end up looking for some of those cheap magic slate things in the end. I think a digital one would sell though.

Well, it does use your screen, but voodoopad is working quite nicely for me as a quick-note-taker and info organiser.
You could also try Evernote which has the interesting advantage of always syncing to the cloud and so all your computers (and some phones) have the same info. Handles notes, images, does some OCR on images so you can search those scrawled notes you snap. I have it on my iPhone and you can snap a shot of a notice and get it OCR'd within minutes; late you can spotlight to find the phone number or website of that interesting business you spotted advertised on some bus or truck. I think it does voice notes too.

Thanks Tim.
Voodoopad looks like a Mac only thing and Evernote looks like it needs an iPhone or equivalent. I really want something that doesn't take screen real estate and doesn't require leaving the application I'm working in at the moment.
So far the "Magic Slate" seems to be the only thing that will work for me. At least they're cheap.
