Modelling special shapes
-
Hi all,
Ive been curious how people model all those nice special shapes.
Like my example. Do they just use the nice smooth and devide rb(which i dont own YET)
or is this just very very hard work with a lot of patience???
Would love to have this answered

I believe that the model you posted the image of is modelled in a different application and imported into SU. Though, it is possible to do it in SU.
There's a few different techniques that's used, not all are subdivide and smooth. Should be some threads on this forum regarding organic modelling. -
here is the plugin you're probably thinking of: http://www.smustard.com/script/SubdivideAndSmooth
Although as thomthom said the pic you posted is most likely of an imported model. You should certainly be able to produce something very similar in SU, though.

if you would like to model organic freeform shapes based on exact NURB splines with much less effort you may want check the Punch! ViaCAD series f. OSX/Win.
3D version starts from U$ 99.- (street price lower) and can import SU files too.
have fun,
Norbert
