[Plugin] Zorro2 (beta)
-
Hi, I think I worked out why it wasnt working. I had a 3ds component (toilet- high poly) in the box shape. Although the section plane wasn't through the component I don't think sketchup could cope with both the component and the procedure of taking a section. Is this normal for the ruby to make sketchup crash when using components? I guess in future projects I'll just take the section first then add components afterwards.
Thanks
Jim

hi there all, bit of a lurker on the forum
But I have to shout major kudos to whaat! You have just saved me mucha mulah! I was thinking about selling my car or something to purchase IRenderXT just to be able to render cut-away views eg 3d plans. As someone said earlier, too much hassel to creat cut sections and then delete what I don't need to take things into Kerkythea. Now hey it is simple as, well I don't think it gets much simpler
One thing though, I can get the section cut through model part working - the major bonus for me. But I literally only get a zoro entry in the tools drop down. According to your screen shots there seem to be some submenus and such, but none of that here. XP SP3 SketchUP 7 free. (Since discovering DoubleCAD I no longer need the pro file exports to go to CAD)
Anyway, a million thanks for something this useful and powerful

I'm confused. I don't think I have posted any screenshots of the menu. There should only be one menu item in the Tools menu. Glad you like the plugin! -
OMG It really works!!!! (with my 3billion entities with components in components in components etc.) and really really fast aswell!!! I'm so happy! You sir are a genius!

I'm having similar problems as Jim_Tim.
I explode everything, and get a bug splat and SU shutdown when trying to slice at a section. Should this work? Any tricks to know?
-
Hi. As previously mentioned I have had trouble with bug splats when using Zorro2. I have experimented with various simple models and as I suggested on a previous post (at least on my system) sketchup has problems when using Zorro and dealing with components. A friend and fellow student has also had similar problems with his models and shared his models with me to see if our different systems made any difference. I have attached one of the models that he created and we have both tried to take section slices always resulting with 'bug splats'. I also tried to remove every component in the outliner to see if that would work but had no joy.
If anybody could work out why this is happening in this model I would be extremely grateful. Hopefully a diagnosis would account for the problems i've been having with other models.
Thank you.

Make sure the Outliner is closed. Making scripted changes to groups/instances with the Outliner open can give a BugSplat...

what is the outliner?
Ive had bug splats even after exploding all components and groups into faces.
basically it were lots of window panes, around a building of circular size. The roof of the building was inclined, so I needed to cut all the windows so they would fit against the inclined roof.
Some of the windows would cut nice. But then, a FEW OF THEM, for no aparent reason, would give bug splats, even if I moved them, copied them and tried to cut somewhere else, if I rotated them, etc.
I ended up cutting them using tools on surface... but needless to say, it took a much longer time. Zorro was the perfect tool for the job, if there were no bug splats.

Menu Window/ Outliner = Arborescence system of the objects
well, certainly I dont need to close it, since i NEVER opened it!

Thanks for the replies, but i'm afraid the outliner is not the problem. I only opened the outliner in the first place because i was getting bug splats. I used the outliner as a quick way to get rid of things i thought might be slowing the model down or causing bug splats. I'd be grateful if anybody could try to resolve the problem in the model i attached earlier in the thread. I think zorro2 could be an amazing tool but i just keep getting bug splats constantly
-
Are you getting the bugsplat just with Zorro2 or with other rubies also?
-
Dale I noticed I always have to reverse section cut before "slice model at section".
May be alternatively you could "inverse" this tool? -
Whaat, I've got 2 files. The first one is the original, its geometry is a result of a simple Follow Me. The second one is a derivative of the first, with some bits manually cut out. The latter Bug Splats almost every time I try to Zorro it up. The former lets me slice it any which way I want, every time. I'm on WinXP SP3, SU7. Do you mind checking it out? TIA
-
I take it it's unresolvable?
-
For me "Bugsplats" arrives also
But maybe it's not a good idea to make a zorro2 on surfaces? -

I really don't know what the problem is. Zorro sometimes just causes random bugsplats. I see no reason that it would work for the first file but not for the second. Ruby plugins are more prone to bugsplats than using straight SketchUp for various reasons. I believe that SketchUp has its own internal entity observers that are probably the culprit.
-
Whaat, I see. Thanks for looking into it. I've remodelled the shape slightly using different path, deleted the middle bits, and now it doesn't bugsplat as often. Go figure
Pilou, you mean as opposed to cutting groups & components? Maybe. I'll try, but I would have thought slicing groups would be a more complex task than modifying faces directly

Thanks a lot fotr this amazing plugin , but how d you install?
-
Download it from the first post in this topic. Save it to C:\Program Files\Google\SketchUp7\Plugins folder. (thats an approximate guess of the exact path, and it might be different on your computer. But just put it in your "Plugins" folder inside your SketchUp installation folder).
Then it will be installed in SketchUp the next time you run SketchUp.
And welcome to the forum!
Chris
