Google....give us back our back button[SOLVED]
-
I'm quite suprised that no one from the sketchup google team has not commented on this. (So far).
I think I mis/understand the google vision of the warehouse, a worldwide resource etc?, but this smacks of marketing bullying a' la microsoft and all the others who try to ram things down our throats.
When will they all realise that while this sort of marketing might work in the short term, its doomed. Cos we will bite them back - by avoiding it. I would have thought that getting some quality navigation into the warehouse would be the thing to make it a truly valuable resource. (By quality navigation, I guess I mean not having to wade thru reams of crap to find a decent model.)
The growing collections of manufacturers products seems to be the most valuable thing for google and the people who need it, I dont however. Perhaps they could give us an option to opt out on set up, and just stay inside our our own computers?
I HATE the present component browser. If someone, as hinted, could come with something user friendly I would be happy to pay for it.baz.
ps: I have such a large collection of comps now I often revert to windows explorer thumbnails to find things and then open them in a new su workspace, not an ideal workflow. -
+1 vote!!

There is a component browser as part of RpToolswhich has a 30 day trial. $75 after that
Nb This just browsers the component directory at the moment, but there has been a requested to allow it to search your computer. It also can also search 3d warehouse.
PS You can also use mouse to spin and orbit the component by dragging on the image preview.(EDIT) I wonder if Al could separate it from the other tools it and sell it at a reduced price, until we get the back button back

Still nothing from Google on giving us back the Back button?
Come on Google, please, it can't be that difficult to do and it would make things so much easier for us all.

YEAH!

Couldn't stand it any more and my 30 day trial for RPTools is running out, so I revisited this thread to see if Google ever popped their collectives out of the sand to offer a solution. Still no word I see...
The Google SkUp team must be really up against a wall. Kind of sad...maybe the old @Last crew will come out of retirement someday and pick up the pieces...
ITMT, one more vote for some kind of action...

Is it just me or is the lack of a back button on the components window really unhandy.
It's officially not just you. Six months of no Back button.
I think they sacrificed it to the god of the vertex for more polygon handling speed.
Proof that programming by means of ritual sacrifice does not work...
well, except when the sacrifice is your own life, your wife, your family, your health...
Anyway, the spirit of the original @Last guys is now truly gone, IMO.

Well if this is a petition then add my name to the list.
Bring back the back.

a.t.I'd love to be able to do that but I can't see a preview image in my thumbnails which is really annoying

Not sure why that would happen. In Views, are you seeing Thumbnails or Icons in Windows Explorer? Different settings...
This idea has allowed a complete reorganization of my components (100s) and much faster multiple drag and drop imports into a model.
Thx again

I think that 64bit system doesn't display the preview. Could be that.

I had that problem on Vista Ultimate 64. If you open Explorer and go to Tools, Folder Options, View Tab, there should be a setting for turning on image previewing. Unlike XP, Vista doesn't have a 'Thumbnail' view. You just set the size of the icons, and they will be the image preview, if you have the correct option turned on.

I've tried everything to get my thumbnails to show the component but nothing has worked. See this thread, http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=16015
As Thomthom said, I think its just a problem with Vista (one of many!)

No, not Vista - 64bit Windows. My 32bit Vista display .skp thumbs just fine, but my windows7 64bit doesn't. I expect hat XP 64bit also fails to display thumbs.

You can just drag and drop from adobe bridge. Simple as.
