Barn WIP
-
I think the rope reaching into the barn would hang more "naturally" in a kind of tangent way which is easily reproducible.
Here I drew a half circle first (the piece resting on the hoister) then starting from one end, still with the arc tool I can get a nice, cyan inference meaning the two arcs are tangent to each other:
Then I simply "finished" the other end usingh the line tool
Finally the "skippy":
-
Thanks, i got it now.
-
Mannie, I did one a year or so ago for an in-game load image, no rendering straight photo texturing, thought maybe you could reference from it (it's part of my Tudor collection)
-
That's a mighty fine looking barn. And it has something i am planning to add to, first have to figure out how to make those hehe. I'm talking about the barrels, i want one that i like to place under a rain pipe commin from the gutter. Still alot to do and learn
-
Barrels (and such geometry in general) are easy to be lathed around a circular path with the Follow me tool just draw the cross section from two lines and two adjacent arcs.
-
Thanks will try that. However i needed a break from this started ti miss vue hehe, so i did a render of what i had now to see how it would look in vue and i must say that i am quite pleased with the result even though it isn't finnished yet.

Now that's superb! Even of a half ready model that's already a nice render, congrats!
-
Mannie that looks great, if I may make one observation, the wall panels seem to bump out at the seams, try reversing the bump in the material editor in Vue. (negative value)
-
Good tip Solo, thanks. These textures where the free low res ones from arroway, i'm looking at my budget and maybe buy that disc cause good textures will do alot to the model.
-
I'm getting all kinds of weird shapes but nothing like a barrel lol
-
try this quick tut.
-
Thanks, i'll try that tomorow. Tonight i'm not doing anything on the pc
-
Ok , im halfway thru the tut, now i am stuck at the step where you copy it 24 times around the rim. How does that work do i have to copy it manually 24x and rotate each or is there a fast way to do this ?
-
Hi Mannie,
That's done with the Rotate tool and the Ctrl button. This way you don't only copy the thng but by typing the number of copies and hitting enter you can make multiple copies.
Rad more srolling down to "Radial arrays" here:

That's what i was trying but what i be getting each time is weird stuff like this
-
Because you are rotating those pieces around a corner of them. You should select the one you make first then get the centerpoint of the circle and rotate them around the centre of the circle. Right click on the circle line and select Centerpoint to get a guide point in the centre.
-
Well i just don't get it, call me stupid lol
-
No, I don't want to call you stupid.
Now you have one piece of that barrel nicely aligned along one segment of the circle, right?- select the piece with the Select tool (the piece is highlighted)
- Place the Rotate tool onto the centerpoint of the circle
- Press Ctrl (to make copies)
- click onto one endpoint of the piece to start the rotation
- click on the other side of it to finish the rotation (now you have made one copy)
- now type 23 (don't click into the box to type just type) and hit enter (no need to type 24 since the original piece is the one to which we aded 23 now)
So just try it again!
-
Thanks, will try that, made a ladder instead just now in the meantime
