just saying hello and that i'm a long time user of sketchup but my knowledge of ruby and plugins is zero! gonna spend a few days going around this great site but if you wanna point me in any particluar direction that'd be great

It seems to be obvious to suggest the Ruby Forum as a direction but I also guess you have already found it:
http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewforum.php?f=180There are tons of excellent plugins so what I'd suggest is to dive in and start using them trying out what they can do. No particular scripting knowledge is needed to use them.
