the following are only minor changes to SketchUp, but quite useful ones I think.
I got that first idea in another thread.

      • groups could adopt some of the component behavior. for example, when I create a group and copy it several times, then realise, I should have made it a component, it is a lot of work replace them.
now I would like to be able to right-click one of them and choose "convert to component" - and all unaltered groups are replaced by this one new component. If you apply this command to only a selection of these groups, only the selected ones will be transformed.

      • you can change the origin of a component by entering it and moving the axes with the axes tool. like that I can affect the native placing point of components, without moving already placed ones.

      • double-clicking the axes tool on a point moves the origin there while keeping the axes' orientation as they were. at the moment you always have to redefine the direction of red and greed axis.

      • and finally: I want to see an advanced version of the "select instances" script implemented into SketchUp, so that you can select several components at once and right-click "select all instances" to select all the copies of all selected components.
a similar command for groups ("select unchanged copies") would be great as well.

My wish. I would like to be able to import a PDF document into Sketchup like I can a jpg and scale the imported doc. This way, I could import a PDF that I can not convert to a DFX file, and draw over the lines to make a Sketchup drawing.

pdf files are vector based, aren't they? so theoretically it should be possible to convert a pdf into lines and faces. that would be awesome!

There are both vector and raster based pdf files so not every kind can be converted into some vector format. Otherwise a lot of 2D drawing apps allow you to import vector based pdf's and export dxf for instance - that's when

(if there were a comma before the "that", it would mean he cannot convert pdf's at all - sigh, crazy Englis syntax)

My minor wish is that the people at Google employ plot-paris as a consultant.
I think I have read everyone of your suggestions both small and perhaps ambitious and then thought, wow, thats a good idea why didn't I think of that.

would be enough though, if they just read this forum and seriously think about all the ideas we come up with πŸ˜„

I have a program that I use to convert some PDF to DFX files. However there are some PDF that won't convert to DFX files. So I have another program, a print driver that will print to a jpg file. However, when I print to a jpg file, in import to Sketchup, the drawing is very fuzzy.

I am just wishing. As I get most of my info from PDF files of old structures.

                      Thanks

What print driver are you using? I have PDFCreator and it can print in a series of image formats and I don't have any problem with the quality generally.

You can do that already, either right-click a component and choose Change Axis, or open the component and rightclick withing the bounding box and choose Change Axis.
Or are you talking about something else?

Well I haven't used the program for sometime because of the print quality. However, now that I look it is not part of my printer selection list. So somewher, I have deleted the small program in my many attempts to keep Windows working. The program would take any file, and print the file out as an image files, JPG, BMP, or TTF. However, like I said, by the time I scaled the image in Sketchup the image had a lot of destortion.

I have PDF Creator, and can not find any print to file selections.

Gaieus, thanks for the response, I will be looking again to make sure I haven't missed any print out selections.

                              Again Thanks

Ken, I hope you are aware of the fact, that you can only import images with maximum resolution of 1024 px. anything above that will be scaled down by SU, although the full file size will be added to the SU-file.

oh, that leads me to another wish: high-res texture support (I think this is rather an OpenGL wish, than a SketchUp one though...)

And that is my problem. I import the image close to 1024, however, when you scale uthe up to size, you get large pixels. That is my wish, since PDF is vector, that it would import into Sketchup and scale up without the large pixels.

                                  Thanks for your input.
