    Dear All,

A colleague of mine would like to install SU on her machine, but unlike my machine (Windows XP Pro) her machine is running Ubuntu. Could someone write me a few notes on how she might install SU on her machine? A simple step-by-step would be appreciated.

    Kind regards,
    Bob

I'm interested in this as well. My brother got a new machine and removed Vista for Ubuntu. Which he's been using. I think you have to install it thru Wine but I'm not sure how that works. I'll look forward to a more knowledgeable response.

        1. "sudo apt-get install wine"
        2. Follow instructions on this page

CAx apps like SU which are relying on a reliable OpenGL 3D graphics output may not work very well in this area (i.e. slow, artefacts) on platforms which do not comply with the system requirements...

... but running XP Pro x32 in a e.g. VMware emulation might fix this 'problem'... 😉

I did get it running but I prefer using Windows for when I do SU.

I had a weird problem that the screen would be black after I panned until I selected something.

I didn't even try uploading to the 3D warehouse.

I tried this myself, but without any luck. I got an ATI Radeon 9800. I've only heard of nVidia users that had luck with SU under Wine. You might also have to disable desktop composition.

The bottom line is that SU under linux is not stable. Experience might vary.

as I've mentioned already: OpenGL issues

disable hardware acceleration (= OGL) in the SU settings and give it a try.

Did that, and got a Bugsplat, both with and without the "Use fast feedback".

                        What hardware do you have?

3D applications is a bit of hit and miss on Linux. Blender works fine, as it's compiled for linux, but running 3D via Wine is most likely to cause allot of grief. It's one of the main reason why I still use Windows as my main system as it support more 3D applications than any other systems.

In order to make it work on linux you need to find the correct hardware and driver combination.

Mind you that a new version of Ubuntu coming soon at the end of this month. Maybe it provide better support.

not "fast feedback" but the mentioned "hardware acceleration" (one above).

I meant the I disabled the Hardware acceleration, which then ticks the Fast feedback and gave me a warning about it.

No matter what I do I get a bugsplat.

Personally I would prefer the black window problem with hardware acceleration on.

I have an nVidia card but I just boot into Windows when doing SU, it doesn't bother me I was just saying what happened to me. I am not looking to fix it.

I will just wait until SU7 and the release of the Linux version 😉
