Textures won't render
-
After reading the Podium help files, I still can't get some textures to render in SU Podium, they render black.
My faces are all normal. What am I missing? Do materials need to be in a special folder?

Ben, this is a better place to post your question than the double posting in the SketchUp Discussion forum.
Is it possible for you to post a screen captured image of the problem before and after you've rendered with Podium?
-
Ben you can also post it on the Podium forum... Ideally would like to see the file as well...
-
could it be that you assigned the texture to a group? this causes unpredictable results.
-
i think i had the same problem before in cambodia, during our cultural exchange.
my questions are. are Google sketchup Free version? coz when we downloaded this, some of the textures of google were protected, so when we render using Podium (30days free) became black. but those ousiders textures did not. -
I didn't mean to double post.
I'm trying to render a carpet material. Texture applied to a normal face, ungrouped.
Thanks. Ben

Can you upload file somewhere. Would like to try to render it myself.
-
Sepo,
So you're saying that any SU texture should render in Podium, without changing the name or put into the Podium directory?
Here's the file.

Yes . I am just downloading the file now so will see.
-
I've downloaded and rendered the file. No problems experienced rendering here, except I don't seem to get the pile profile pictured. It looks more like noise, it could be the scale of the image, it does seem to be the scale of the image from the looks of it. What size image did you use? Try not to exceed 1024 x 1024 pixels as SketchUp will automatically reduce it to be max 1024px. Normally 512px is more than sufficient (tip I got from an expert texturer / modeler).

needed to reaplly texture as it was applied to backface and flipped. Anyway it renders fine. And just to confirm you Podium will render materials from SU ...as you see them in your model (apart from transparent .png).
-
Sepo,
I don't understand how it could have been applied to the back face, but thank you. I'll give it another try.
Juju, thank you too for your help.

It could happen like this....you apply material to reverse face....and than discover you have reversed faces... than you flip it and forget to apply to front face. I've seen it before.
-
Sepo and Juju,
Nope, still renders black.
Juju, the texture came with SU.

I tried several of the SU textures. I can only render the colors, the rest seem to render black.
Any other ideas?

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Podium from fresh?
-
I seem to recall having had a similar issue when exporting a model using the free Google SU with only the standard material package installed... (the package, which is installed together with GSU)
I suggest you download the Materials Bonus Pack and try seeing how this will work...
-
Juju, may have to try that.
Frederick, I'm using the Pro version and I did install the bonus pack.
Thanks guys.

Ben can you tell me do you have mac or windows version?
-
Could it be that your textures are placed in a folder or sub-folder (meaning the entire string) containing a non-standard letter..??
(something outside the English alphabet...)
I'm guessing here, since I can't grasp why you can't make this work...
