Watch out Google!!

I am convinced. At the moment it's simply not good enough. With a google search you can quickly turn the search into an image or video search, search maps etc. With cuil you can't do any of that, you just get an extra image by the side of the searches, and often that image will be repeated numerous times even when the site has nothing to do with the subject.
I don't see why anyone would use cuil over google at this time.

It'll be the Dr. Pepper of the search engines. IE: I actually like the taste of Dr. Pepper more than Coke but just by the shear inundation of the Coke brand I never really think to drink Dr. Pepper. Google is synonymous with search and wether or not it's the best application for it it'll be a moutain of effort just to get people to try your search engine let alone use it on a regular basis over what is the defacto common place search engine you have become so comfortable with.

Phil, in that sense i think cuil have done pretty well really, i mean how long have they been public? a day or two? and theyve managed to pull in a good crowd in that time, i think the really hard bit is convincing people their search engine returns better results than everyone else's, which at the moment doesnt seem to be happening.
Ive got a feeling google has the best search algorithm at the moment, and its going to eb a while until someone comes up with something better, until then theyre going to stay on top.

"Cuil"? lol! I used to be a copywriter, and I can tell ya, if I'd come up with a name like that for a new product (that's competing with the world leader, no less!), and said: "it's pronounced 'cool'", I'd be tarred and feathered.
And if anyone would've suggested it to me, I'd had him banned to Antarctica. You want cool? There you are!
This is seriously bad copywriting. And I mean bad.

I really like their layout - with images and a better (longer) excerpt from the web pages.
But I was amused that I did not recognize the image they chose for this entry from SuWiki:

yeah, the images are a little bit odd at this point. I don't quite know where they come from. The ones I've seen so far don't really make sense. Maybe its a glitch that will be improved?

If I recall correctly, that image is of a news broadcast of a lawyer being shot at by an angry client. Why it's being used in association with the SUWiki, I have no idea.

I think it's that photo where the guy says: 'Gimme your Irender or this will be the end for you'

Ahh, good call Jon, thats exactly what that is. Yeah, what does that have to do with the wiki?.....

oh, I even found a link:

Do you think I can sue cuil for this somehow? I'm sure its caused me undue grief or stress or something to have that violent imagery associated with the wiki
EDIT: Though it is tied directly to the irender page, so perhaps its Al who gets to sue then....
