My new job has purchased a MAC Pro recently and I have been running Sketchup pro on it but have some questions since this is my first real experience with a MAC.

      1. The materials browser is quite different than a PC version of Sketchup and I can not find the eyedropper for sampling materials
      2. How can I dock the toolbars? Right now I can only drag them up to the main toolbar at the top but the will not integrate with it.
      3. How can I set the default folders for models, textures, etc.

I am sure these are quite simple questions but I have been trying to figure it out for a while so I figured I would ask. I appreciate any help.

Scott, Welcome the the Mac. It works a bit different from the PC.
I had the same difficulty finding the eyedropper. While in paint
mode just press the Opt Key, the one with the little apple.

The Toolbars stay floating BUT you can take them OUTSIDE the SU
Screen! I use a great utility called Sticky Windows. I would
be lost without it. Basically you can just grab a window and
slap / stick it around the edge of the screen. It can be found
        here, http://www.donelleschi.com/stickywindows/

You might find some other useful Mac apps at this thread,

And don't forget that if you have Leopard, you can install
Boot Camp and use the Win Version of SketchUp while trying to
get to grips with the Ma version.

Thanks Mike. I am running both MAC and PC in VMWare. Thanks for the tips and I will give sticky windows a try. I am sure I will have a few more questions soon.

Alright Mike, I am getting to feel much more comfortable with my new mac but have one issue that is driving me nuts. On a PC when "exploring" to my models folder I could see my actual models and not the sketchup default image. Now with the MAC no matter what I have done I can not see the actual model in preview. I have tried "extra large Icons" and everything else I can think of. It is fairly impossible to navigate to a model if I can not see what I am choosing. I am hoping I am just missing something. Any help would be appreciated.

                Hi Scott,

I had the same problem also at the start, the little image not
showing up! I find if I open the su file and re-save it, it then
shows with the image. I am not aware of any way to do this with
a bunch of files though! Maybe some Mac expert can suggest a way.

So far as I can see SU is not Applescriptable, so we can't handle it that way. I'd guess that a relatively simple ruby script ought to be able to open all your models and save them with the preview image - but I'm not a rubyite and have no intention of becoming one. Might be worth asking the regular viewers of the ruby section of the forums.

Not exactly what your looking for but you can preview any file on the Mac by selecting it and using the space bar view the file. You can select multiple files and scroll through your selection. New in 10.5

Actually this is one of the SU things I really hate on OS X.

Even when the previews are displayed, they are ugly and too small. What's with this funny little curled piece of paper with a pin in it anyway? SU files don't match the default OS X format for either documents with or without a preview. The non-preview kind of matches, but is a poor, crude substitute.

Image files have thumbnails, so why can't SU files have thumbnails without this curled piece of paper thing?

Definitely a 'could do a lot better' for V7 IMO.
