You can do it in SU, if yu have th pro version. Just go file->export->3ds

If you havent got the pro version, i dont mind converting it for you (if the file isnt too big etc.), just PM me.

If your looking for something more long term i you can export your model as a google earth 4 file from SU, rename it to .zip and open it up to find a .dae file (in the models folder.) You can then open this up in blender (its free) and save it in a huge variety of formats, including 3ds.

remus, i'm trying to use this method, but blender doesn't open the dae file.

after i select import-collada 1.4, it says: "cannot find folder: please set path in file "colladaimport14.py".
so i don't know how to select the file...

Hmmm, im getting it as well, im guessing you need a python script to import it, although im not sure where youd get it from.

edit: i tihnk ive found it, although i dont knw enough aobut lender to know how to make it run. http://www.koders.com/python/fid66197220E55556A873266D86CF9F78DCBCD2159F.aspx

OK, so heres the full run through.

First you need to download and install python from here: http://www.python.org/download/

Then you need to download the script form here: http://www.koders.com/python/fid66197220E55556A873266D86CF9F78DCBCD2159F.aspx (link in the top left hand corner.) Once youve done that just whack the script in the blender plugins folder and your off.

I tried to download from the link http://www.koders.com/python/fid6619722 ... 2159F.aspx but it does not have the script. How should I get it?

If you download a blender 2.5 test build from here: http://www.graphicall.org/builds/ it has .3ds export built in.
