Well ... they'd be passing up on a great business opportunity if they didn't include high poly support. In any case, I was already planning on diving into Silo in September.
Not that I want to give up on SU. God no. And I'm fairly sure none of you would like to do that. Though ... maybe I'll check out Bonzai when it's released ...

+1! You forgot to mention the LO integration.
SU 7 will sell the Pro version as severely handicapped and add all the new GE/GW features (buttons that make you go: "oooh, dats purdy") will be integrated into the free version. There will also be an in-model advertising component to SU7 so whenever you name a component say "window" you'll be bombarded with links (in an interactive right hand side pane) to companies that sell windows, cleans windows, glaze windows, and of course the operating system as well, just to be complete.

I'm speechless but tell you what,
I've been looking at a lot of "similar to SU software" springing up around lately but I must say so far none have even gotten close.
And I'm confident that SU 7 is gonna be and SU 6 still is the best 3D tool you can have on your machine!

You're damn right that SU still rules.
'Being a fine app' is, at the same time, the frustrating part for some of this forum users as well.
As we love to use Sketchup we are concerned about its further development.
I am sure I am not the only one who would hate to undergo the difficult learning curves of the dinosaur apps when SU 7 would turn out to be not that good or some basic requirements (like high poly/64 bit) would not be met.... -
Back in @last days, news was hard to get as well.
But I do remember that, if a thread like this stayed on long enough, Someone of the @last team (often Jim Holman) would drop in to cool the hot potatoe.A simple statement like : '...this will be adressed' or 'no promises, but we are working on this' would be enough for me.
And we all know which topics need that reply.A lot of people build their jobs around SU. It's disrespectful to leave them in the cold. Amen.

God knows whatll happen when there is some real tangible news about SU 7!

I went away from Basecamp 2008 feeling SketchUp was in good hands with the current pool of developers. Basecamp was an opportunity to meet & talk with many of them. There are significantly more of them working on it now vs. previous versions. I was impressed that Google offers them opportunities to explore areas of their personal interest. The impact is they seem to be encouraged & supported to explore SketchUp on a deeper level, pushing it, trying out alternate approaches, all with the ultimate shared goal of making it better. They genuinely seem to enjoy their work and the team they have. They certainly seemed driven to make SU even better.
Yes they are tight lipped. I trust there will be a v7 when they feel it is ready.

That's the feeling I got when I read Chopra's book - that there's genuine love there. I am somewhat torn between feeling worried, and being confident 7 will be great. On a bad day, that is. Mostly, I'm confident.
If I'd have to guess, I'd say the much requested high poly support will in fact be integrated. Some additional modeling tools, perhaps, but not that many.
Would I, if I were to make the decisons over at Google, and if high poly support were added, be open about what to expect from the upcoming version of SU? No. I'd aim for a surprise attack - and I'd market it like it was World War 3.
So, from a user's point of of view, I'm annoyed by Google's modus operandi. But as a former marketing professional, I understand it - heck, I applaud it. As I said: torn.
