        hi bernhard,

i am a VW user too. in general i use VW for 2D and SUp for 3D. it is very common in my workflow to export a 2D VW drawing in dwg format and import it in SUp as the basis for modelling something.

i have never exported from SUp to VW but i know there is a plugin for this purpose available at this address.

in general i compose my sheets in VW so it is usual to import images exported from SUp and Photoshop into them.

          thx edson for feedback!

at the moment i am still producing 2d files in autocad export them as basic for 3d modells in sketchup and then back in 2d autocad for detailplans...
I heard that people who started to work with revit (or vectorworks) make all the plans by extracting them out of the 3d modell (and don`t want miss it anymore) (and also do the mass calculations like this..)

it is said that vectorworks can "read" floors walls and components from skecthup - that sounds perfect πŸ˜„ just I want to hear it from someone who did it allready successfully - cause i would have to buy vectorworks ...

          thx bernhard

Here is a "Revit to SketchUp" tutorial.
I know it's not the same but maybe you can find some general ideas.

              thx for link, Gaieus!

I am totally surprised that people import from revit and vectorworks to sketchup -
that shows - sketchup is the favorit πŸ˜„

well - I will download a trialversion for 30 days of vectorworks and make my own experience..

I just had a quick search and found this thread. I have been doing it the other way round; SU>Vectorworks

I have been exporting all the views I need from SU as DWG then importing them to Vectorworks in order to detail over the top of them.

I wish there was a more transparent way of having the whole model in VW, especially the colours and solid shapes, because it takes a lot of time to rebuild the drawing in VW.

I have on one occasion exported to PNG, which exports shaded objects as 2D faceted objects so the shading is retained, but I have had to import the PNG to Illustrator then export/import to VW... which messes up the scale πŸ˜’

An example is attached... the images are just JPG exports BTW

I don't use Vectorworks, but people say many good things about it. I am just wondering if you have tried exporting your SU model as a 3D DWG file, and if VW could import that (or even 3DS-to preserve even the textures)

I have found that exporting polylines from Vectorworks to Sketchup causes errors in display, the lines seem to have been 'smoothed' and the reality is you lose a lot of detail

Im new to vectorworks so assume it is an export setting, has anyone had this occur?

Tracing over polylines with lines seems to fix it but its not really a fix...

                    Any ideas appreciated

                    thanks

                    EDIT - FIXED

Decomposing polylines under the edit menu allows export normally
