Placing objects using angle & distance
-
I would like SketchUp to include the ability to place/locate objects using distance and angle from another object or a datum point.
When that is done, life would be complete if SketchUp could accept these angles and distances via USB/RS232 form an external source. (eg Theodolite) -
If you do the heavy lifting in a spreadsheet to get to x,y,z co-ordinates than it's easy with the cloud script.

You can do this. Draw a line of the desired length from you point of origin. Rotate the line horizontally and vertically the desired number of degrees. Place new object at end of line. What am I not understanding about the problem?

There's also this 'surveytool' plugin by architect John Wehby, that takes distances and bearings...

There are also some other useful tools by him there...
Writing a script to import distances and angles is quite straightforward... can you post a text file of some example data... It could place cpoints that you then swap for components later [such tools already exist]
