Frickin huge pavilion

elevations (duh!)

thats wicked, i really like the how its all propped up on those big stone pillars, reminds me a bit of how baens are made. cool model as well.
-
Daniel, where is that going to be?
It sure looks familiar to the Jack Daniels BBQ Pavilion I worked on a few years back.
http://www.billposs.com/commercial_jackDaniels.phpNice work BTW.

Thanks for the comments. It's located in Harrogate, Tennessee (close to Cumberland Gap). that looks like a sweet project, Eric.

daniel,
interesting work. if you do not mind design observations, i have two. first, i would raise the walls of the enclosed area up to the horizontal structural members. second, i would diminish the tapering of the pillars, if not make them straight.
as jean would say, just ideas...

a small detail that would make all the difference in your model would be to include precast caps on all of your stone (columns and fireplace) it will give you model a much higher level of refinement for not too much more work.
@edson: the battered stone at the column bases and heavy timber members is a good use of the vernacular cues from the region

Thaniks for the comments. If it becomes a real project, there's lots of details to be worked out. Caps on the stone columns will probably be rough stone - precast is too "refined" for whats supposed to be a rustic structure.

That looks freakin familiar! just remove the buildings and shrink it a row of tables and I've seen that at a park before.

I've been under a large pavilion like this in a rain storm with the open gable ends and the high roof they actually provide very little shelter and with the open Gable ends depending on the time of day the sun also floods in. Just two observations also I agree that the stone column bases should have stone caps. I'd also want to see them extend up to the underside of the beams and maybe less taper to them... well ask an architect for his opinion and you may just get an earful....we're good at coming up with multiple design options...not so good and settling down on just one though.

I keep hearing Nicolas Cage doing his Saturday Night Live skit as "Tiny Elvis"
"Look at that Pavilion! That's fricken huge!"

Decrative Daniel,
I want to eat here, and party with all manner of woodland beasts...
Get to tapping a Jack bird pony Keg.
Growing, baby, I mean blowing up big and bright.
When I'm pouring a nice neat highball, and checking out the underside of this roof, and the interesting stone work, the funky dude with his red calamity hat on, is all about "managing" the fear dance.
