Layout Tweaks

After figuring out the processes involved in Layout, I have found a few items that need addressing or perhaps I need some some advice.

1. The Leader Line Text Tool: Each text that is placed has to have the entities of the leader line adjusted. I have not been able to make this stick in my template.
2. All text that is placed whether Standard text or Leader Line text, you have to stretch the text box after placement or you will only get part of your text.
3. I cant seem to be able to tell what the links that are outdated are. There is no clear indication of which drawing needs to be relinked, and if you pick the wrong one you can be in for a long reorganization.
4. Response time between selection and next command is a snooze session, but that has been mentioned before.
5. Move Forward and Move back either in partial or all the way doesnt seem to be working.
6. There should be a kill command button, I find ESC / Space executed in that order work best.
7. The Scenes in SU have no definition when sections are used. If you turn on sections with a particular style in use, that style needs updating, If you update that style then any other scenes will have section initiated when you return to that Scene. To get out of this you have to have a style for each different scene. Very counter-intuitive IMO.
8. LO Update is very difficult to make initiate sometimes. The grayed out menu items are a cool thought if there is no need to update: but when you have to update and you cant un-gray the selection…it is frustrating. Save of and altering of the SU file doesn’t change the Update menu… Oh yeah, did I mention the possibility of better definition on the link definition read so you can be certain which file you are working on?

Good points, and some of these answer the question "why is LayOut still called a beta".

I'll try to answer a few of these.

1. If it's for a template, I'd group things and lock the layer for your template.
2. Text box sizing is something we're working on. If text is clipped, in most (should be all, but it's not) cases a red arrow should show up indicating that all the text is not displayed. We're working on this.
3. What links are outdated? Make sure you turn on "Check references when loading this document" in Document Setup. You can also right click on a model and see if the contextual menu enables "update reference". Would you like some permanent indication when the model is out of date?
4. Always working on performance...
5. Hmmm... haven't seen this. Is this from the contextual menu (right click->Arrange->Send Back) or the Arrange menu? You have something selected and it doesn't work? An example would be helpful here.
6. Kill, or maybe "stop doing and undo... I was just kidding and I didn't really mean to do that and why are you taking so long to do this operation"? Escape (as you mentioned), Undo, or try to quit then don't are a few choices.
7. This is confusing to all of us, and we working at how to communicate Scenes, styles, styles that are modified but not update, etc... you're definitely not alone on this one. We'll keep trying.
