    Hi all,
Incidentally I had to write this little tool. It is similar to the "divide" command of Autocad, which doesn't break a line or segment into parts but insert points along a line, given the number of segments.

USAGE: Pick an edge, right-click and select "Divide by construction points". Enter the number of segments.

PS: New version from March 07, now works with arcs and circles.
Option to break line, arc, circle at construction points.

English version. Put it in your Plugins folder.

Version française. A mettre dans le dossier Plugins.

Speaking of AutoCAD, I could really use a routine equivalent to ACAD's "Slice" command.

Specifically, define a plane with any two intersecting straight lines. Any object intersected by this plane is sliced, with the user's ability to select the pieces retained ... either 'left', 'right', or both.

Applications = plumbing, carpentry, construction ...

          There's always a better way.

              Thanks Didier,

this is exactly the missing function I was looking for, but it does not work works under sketchup 8...
I posted too quickly and I did not put the script in the right plugins folder (damn Apple...)

Here is how to find it if you use a mac : http://sketchuptips.blogspot.se/2008/03/how-to-download-and-install-plugins.html

It works very well and save me a lot of work!!
