SU "snap to" ability

I am fairly new, about 6 months...but do alot of modeling so far...but I was wondering if there is anyway to turn off SU's ability to always wanting to "snap to" a line....etc.

not that i know of. my sugestion is to learn to love it. its EXTREMLY helpful. trust me, i use it all the time. oh, and btw, welcome to the forums!!

Yes, welcome to the forum.
I have to agree with Igor. Once you get the hang of it and use the snapping together with guide lines and guide points you'll be asking yourself how you ever lived without it.
Or without SketchUp, for that matter.

Hi folks.
The inference engine is one of the forces of SU. Without it, it would be difficult for the software to guess where you want to put something in 3D space when viewing, and using, a 2D screen.
In cramped spaces, you can zoom in and orbit to choose the point of view that will minimize unwanted snaps.
Disable Length snapping in Model Info --> Units to avoid having more snaps than needed.
Use layers and scenes to control the visibility of objects. Invisible stuff will not be snapped to.
However, I agree that some kind of filtering could help sometimes a bit like Power Draw was doing in the 90s on my old Mac (today's PowerCadd is probably offering that). Pressing a key would tell the program to consider only some kind of snaps (X for intersections, V for vertex or endpoints, M for midpoints, etc).

I guess what i'd like is something like in AutoCAD.
- there is osnap toggle (on/off)
- you can set what all you'd like to snap to....endpoint, midpoint, intersection etc etc
- and at the same time you can force it to snap to anything (by context clicking)as well...

thanks everyone...all your ideas really help. I too use "zoom in" really close to help with placing things exactly where i want with less snaping in some cases.
