Offset improvement
-
Hello
When I happen to draw a lot of offset one after the other, I would very much like the offset tool to avoid me from "selecting" each time the square or line concerned before activating the offset function.
The tool could "select" automatically when passing over a line or an area.
The CTRL and ALT would behave just like now to add or substract. This little trick is not much, but SU is so much made pleasant with its dozens of little tricks that I would wish this one.

Hi Marc,
When you use the offset tool on edges that close a plane and create a face and while hovering over that face, you need not select the edges - it works like the Push/Pull tool; autoselets them.
True however that when there is no face or when you only want to offset some of the lines, you need to pre-select them. But the how could SU know that for instance which 2 or three of the 4 lines of a square you want to offset?

You are right Gaieus, I did not know,
Thank you and you can erase my request.Just one more thing, I do not succeed to maintain the number repetition with that function, I always have to re-type the offset quantity

Marc, it's the same as with the Push/Pull tool; double click and it will perform the same distance on the "repetitive" faces.
I think thje topic can remain (unless you really want me to (re)move it) for others' saje. This is also a place for all of us to learn. (Maybe I could move it to the SU Discussions)

anglaret, you made me think of nice idea:
SketchUp often remembers things - like if you move something a certain distance; if you move it again, it will snap to that earlier distance, if you near it.
wouldn't it be nice if the offset tool remembered the last selection of lines it was used with and highlight them as soon as you hover over one of the lines (the originally selected ones or the newly created ones, depending on where your cursor hovers).
another really cool thing would be to be able to create repetitive offsets by typing in 3 * for example (or the other way arround: 3 / ), just after creating the offset
(I thought it was possible. but by trying I just discovered it is not - would be so handy though )
