solo, spill the beans already, are you beta testing v2.0?

The shape is a mathematical curve called a trefoil. I created one using using knotplot and shipped it into Sketchup.
In the render I forgot to smooth the skippy so it went a bit jazzy!

Nice one bob, far cleaner than anythign that could easily be produced in SU! cheers for sharing it.
edit: i was going to try and do a render of this in podium, but podium is struggling slightly (a lot!) with it.

It looks really good, but it lacks caustics...

ha.. man, i was just starting to get my head around what's actually going on with this shape and was about to start trying out the proper curves... then i open up this thread... i'm throwing in the towel after seeing knotplot..

a non transparent version..

Solo,
Is that Vue you are rendering with?By the way, I wouldn't have a clue how to model a doodle like that in sketchup..

I am great fan of mathematical shapes. Nice model, did made a subdivision in KT. Take a look on k3dsurf, nice program for creation of mathematical models.

This is an amazing response, Thanks Bob! I'll try my rendering in K when I get a break in action and post my attempt. There is so much useful knowledge generated here

My attempt rendered with KerkyT.

new things

tried one with cheetah.. just using the trial version for now (everything works normal and it doesn't expire - you just can't save anything.. this is a screen shot)..
