Exterior panorama
-
Well, I uploaded the individual Jpegs (which just happen to be 3.2 meg).
They are here: jpegs
I can transfer this skippy to my other computer that has never seen any of this and it works perfectly well, too, though it is also a Mac.
Dang, try to do right by the community a bit and it turns into a PITA: this is annoying.

hi chuck,
this is what i got. no problem. must say at first there where a couple of big squares showing on the top part, but the image was clearly visible. to get rid of the squares i just opened and closed the group.
hope it helps.
regards.

I'm on a PC and could not see the images in the panorama, file size was good but all that showed up were the blue panels. I certainly opened and closed the group and may have tried exploding it.
In the end I downloaded the jpgs, turned on Hidden geometry and was able to select three panels at a time and re-texture them. The jpg names showed up in the edit material display - but the Use Image as texture checkbox was not checked and would not stay checked.
I deleted the existing jpg names, browsed to the downloaded versions and all was well.
Interestingly the skippy is still about the same size so it looks as though the new textures have replaced the old ones.

Thanks for the troubleshooting, guys.
I guess I should feel a little better knowing that it works fine on another Mac.
Thanks, Bob, for exploring this further. Weird how you have to manually browse to newly downloaded images to get it to work, while the file size is unchanging.
There is obviously a platform compatibility issue going on here. Hopefully, the Google Support team sees, and does something about this.
It is quite disappointing to discover that any SKP I might give to a client to check out in their free version (not that I ever do this but suppose) of Sketchup will not display any image textures!! That would really make me look professional. "Hey Chuck, why on earth do you wrap the model with a bunch of blue squares on a cylinder!"
I'm glad I stumbled into this here, with you guys, as opposed to out in the real world.
Is the cyclorama going to be useful for anyone, at least?

Hi,
For those who like panoramas: have a look at:
http://www.wpanorama.com/panoramas.php?page=01g&lng=fr
Resolutions up to 5800x1200, lots of 360° to download, vertical panoramas, sorted by themes, check them in the left pop-up menus. -
oooh, good site, im going to have to do a few more renders so i can use those as backdrops.
-
thanks,Didier.it,s a good resource!
-
Just for some closure, we're looking into this problem and will give updates when we know more. Thanks for bringing it to our attention!
Cheers,

Thanks for the update, Craig. And thanks for making sure support saw this.
you are da man, man
-
Now I'm pretty sure that in this topic the problem was/is the same.

I have sent an enormous letter to support with a breakdown of all of the major bugs in Sketchup that effect me on a day to day basis.
I have not heard a word back from them, but at least they have the list, with descriptions and suggestions.
Hopefully, SU7 will address all of these, or at least the major ones.
I think that Gaieus is correct concerning the other thread; it certainly sounds like the same issue.
Here's to support blowing us away with their progress! (fingers crossed...)
-
I'm just wondering:
Support for some image formats (TGA was brought to my notice by a thread in the Groups) seems to have been silently removed from the PC version. Were the original images TGA:s?
Also, at least Photoshop recognizes two ways to write many image formats: the Mac and PC byte orders. Generally the PC byte order works excellently with both the PC and Mac, but files in the Mac byte order format cannot be read by many PC applications (luckily Photoshop can...).

With that Hungarian example it was jpg's. However this might be an answer - the problem is that the Hungarian guy does not really come here too often so I cannot ask.
-
Here is the link to his model:
http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=81000b5b9e6f07a3b52f3b0c363015d3&prevstart=0#It shows the same symptoms as Chuck's panorama.

Still no official word, FWIW.
Anssi, you make an excellent point. My jpegs were batch processed out of Photoshop on a Mac. I looked through the Photoshop preferences to force a PC compatible version and found nothing that allowed me to change the jpeg version (Mac or PC).
Any idea how to change the batch save settings?
Thanks.

Hi !
I made the "hungarian example" Gaieus mentiOned above ...I'm using a mac,
and downloaded your panorama from the link at the beginning.
WORKS PERFECTLY FOR ME :S -
Thanks for the update.
I am glad to hear that it worked for you. Apparently, there is some sort of a bug with image exif data. As should come as no surprise, it works on a Mac but PC doesn't work.
-
Hi Chuck,
I think I may know what is going on with this issue. I believe your images have an exif (common to digital cameras) format - true? If so, we have finally isolated a bug with exif formatted images. Those images can display correctly on the Mac but fail to display on the PC. Unfortunately, the only workaround that I have found is to save the images with a different format. We are working on this issue though.
Does that help?
Best regards,
Tricia
