Newbie and complete idiot I guess

I have a Macbook with SU6. I read the tutorials, have watched several of the go-2-school pod-casts. First time i tried to draw a circle. As soon as I moved the cursor off the circles tool to the drawing area I got hundreds of blue and red circle's like mouse tracks. I reopened SU and read till i got to the tutorial on making a sphere. I can copy the circle but when I try to rotate 90 degrees I can't get it done. I have watched and tried the little demo for over and hour. Am i really this stupid????. I can get the circle to swing up 90 from an arc but not rotate up 90.

don't know about your mousetracks, but sometimes you need a little helper geometry on your screen to get your inferences going.
When my screen is empty and I need to rotate something I draw a smallish square then Push Pull it into a cube. Now when I need to rotate, I use the face of the cube to lock inference , when the rotate tool turns the right color, hold down shift then move it to the object i want to rotate and flip-it.
HTH, if not post back. -
that is exactly what i do too.

I Use to live up in Leadville. Anyway I can rotate the circle 360 no problem around the red axis but I can't get it to rotate 90 to the blue axis If I move the compass up the screen it turns green and rotates (just the compass)90 degrees. Being new I'm just following that little tutorial. can't believe its that difficult. And not knowing anything its hard for me to try and describe what I'm doing I guess and not understanding you at all I guess I need a nanny:) Funny thing is I can do Autocadd LT. Maybe my brain won't think 3D -
I just tried the follow me tool. it was given as another tutorial or shpere. I can't get it to work either. the only thing I can get to work is the push pull

If I draw a circle at the origin of the three axis. draw a line up the blue axis and then an arc. then select the circle, then the follow me about three inches up the screen form where i start with the select tool it draws the "tube" so to speak. Is the drawing screen suppose to be brown and then green about 2/3 of the way up??

Hi TNW...
As for the mouse trail - it must be some video card setting.
Now as I'm on Windows, I'm not really sure things are at the same place but we have Window > Preferences > OpenGL settings. Go there and try to check/incheck some things like Fast feedback and/or Hardware acceleration. See if anything changes,As for the circle (and actually rotatin anything about a custom axis/line), try to follow thse steps:
- draw a circle using the origin as a centrepoint
- select all (double click), choose the move tool and hit the Option key (no need to hold it pressed) - this will make a "copy"
- click anywhere but beforemoving, press the up arrow key on your keyboard (this wil lock the move along the z - blue - axis)
- move the copied circle up
- now place the rotate tool to the centre of the original circle (easier to find because it's still the origin
- press the mouse button but do not release it! - start "dragging" the cursor into any direction (say along the red axis) and see how the procreactor will "stand up" and when you have the red procractor, release the button. Now your rotation will be locked around the red axis (you can do this with any arbitrary line, guidelines etc.)
- now just click on the circle anywhere and start rotating
- but before clicking again (to finish the rotation), type 90 and hit enter.
- now you can play with the follow me...

I figured it out. Those tutorials suck!!! Ya just gotta keep f***in with it

The cube will help you too. When you touch the compass to separate faces of the cube you get different rotations available. Green compass spins it on the Green axis, red compass spins it on the red etc. See the attach.
Edit, lost the attach, glad you figured it out...

Thanks People. So glad to get it figured out I forgot my manners. Thanks again. Not much I can do about the mouse trails I'm on a macbook and a 19wb lcd attached and I don't see any adjustment

Hopefully some Mac guru will drop into the discussion here and give you some suggestions
