AutoCAD 06/SU6 compatibility issue?
-
Hello Fellow Sketchers.
Are you guys having trouble when you import an AutoCAD 2006 drawing file into SU6? I get shadows over my models (to coin a term, the shadow "foregrounds" the object that supposedly throws it), if not objects totally disappearing, or vanishing...like I'm using the wrong FOV angle.
Though I haven't thoroughly investigated this hypothesis, I suspect incompatibility with AutoCAD 2006. Tried once converting to 2000 and importing; seemed to work. But hadn't followed through consequently due to my twisting and turning workflow.
Tech info: Pentium 4, Core2Duo, 1Gb Ram.
Help?

Could you upload an example dwg/dxf file to Kelly's for us to experiment?
I'd be really curious to see the result.

I am not sure, but isn't SU suposeed to only support DWG formats of ACAD 2004 or older?

I think Anssi is correct. I have to save my Revit drawings to acad 2004 .dwg anytime I want to import into SU.

Maybe not any more... Just upload that file for God's sake...

SketchUp currently imports dwg AutoCAD files in r2004 or earlier. If you have a newer version of AutoCAD SaveAs an earlier version - like r2004. If you have received a dwg from someone else you can download AutoDesk's free conversion tool 'DWG True View'... this lets you convert any release dwg into any other release dwg that you select...

Rico - I've experienced the same problem importing from 05.
It appears like there's a section plane in the model. I then noticed two Scenes had appeared called F1 and F2 which I erased and everything worked fine.I hope this helps

Well, we can't seem to hear any news about this...

Hello all.
Wasn't my reply soooo full of suspense? Kidding aside, logging in constantly is slightly impossible with deadlines always around the corner yesterday; add to the fact the the office limits internet access to text format emails. I think our IT guys forgot the nature of our job is hugely graphic...
Anyways, let me try upload said example in a few days when i can access my office files (Islam Holiday hereabouts). As for the hidden section plane issue, nope, I made that CAD file myself, so there were no section planes interfering with the model. BTW, while on the SU model, the planes seem to jumble in order (i.e, planes behind suddenly present themselves up front during orbiting). For now, the usual solution given breathers-down-my-neck present, is grin and bear it.
In a few days.
