Another Newbie....

Hello to all...
My name is Gary and I'm very new to SketchUp... Only 1 week!!! I Have Ver 6 Pro.
I use AutoCAD in my everyday work "Architectural Design" I only work in 2D and produce detailed working drawings for planning & building regulations approval, But I have a lot of enquiries for 3D visualisations lately so I thought I would give it a go. I'm not interested in using AutoCAD for 3D work, and SketchUp "looked" fairly easy.
I am very slowly learning it, and I have had a few good tips from this site already. I do miss a lot of my AutoCAD commands however.
I think the "Layout" side of the software should be good, but I can't find an option to let me draw/print on A1 media, but I have only looked at in for 20 mins!!! so it might be there?
I had no idea about "Ruby" code!!! I have since downloaded a few and I was very impressed. Some did not work as I was getting errors, but I will get round to it.
I am only interested in being able to show elevations and floor plans in "2D" on A1 media, along with a few "3D" views. I also need to find out about different line types, line weights, line colours, Viewports etc etc... So if anyone else is in the same line of business... HELP!!!
So that's it, complete novice on SketchUp so no doubt I will probably be asking a few daft questions.
Gaz...

go to preferences under "window" and you'll see "shortcuts" you can make you own quick commands.

go to our Ruby forum, and post the error, someone will be there soon to help sort it out.

the "Styles" dialog box is going to be your best friend... play with the line settings and view settings there to get what you need...
you'll also want to make sure and use the View settings under the "View" tab
so anything else you need just ask... we're here 24/7

Gaz,
Many people (myself included) are back and forth between SU and AutoCad.
...
Don't worry too much about learning Layout.
My Top Tip would be, leave it alone, especially for large models.
It is essentially Paperspace for SketchUp but it isn't quite there yet and has limitations (Beta software).
Hopefully one day it'll run like clockwork.
...
You can export info to Acad no problem if reqd.
...
Concentrate your efforts on learning SU.
The bad news is - it works nothing like Acad so you'll have to learn a different way of doing things.
The good news is - it works nothing like Acad so 3D is a dream !!!
Its also very easy to pick up / learn - and also very powerful.
...
Once you get the hang of it you'll love it.
...
Have a look at the video Tutorials - they are quite good.
...
Good Luck
