See the adjacent thread about make 'logs'. Didier already has a Balustrade tool...

You could make a ExtrudeSelectedFaceAlongPath.rb... A sort of combination of my set of ...AlongPath... tools and RickW's CopyAlongPath... script

Then you could draw any face shape you like - half pipe, cornice etc without the need to orient it at 90 degrees to the start of the path. You'd select the face and the path and it'd do it for you ? Alternatively you could use external face components - like Didier's Balustrade... script and extrude those along the path - ExtrudeSelectedComponentsFaceAlongPath.rb...

This is all possible... but is it worth doing when you can already draw and do this with a little effort and pushpull/followme ? Perhaps an alternative idea would be a script that orients a selected face at 90 degrees to the start of a selected path for the later pushpull or followme... that way you use the inbuilt base tools for the main work, but we'd have a neat tool to start you off - OrientFaceToPath.rb ?

        TIG,
Please humor me,but would there be any way to maintain the ½ pipe (profile) diameter in a static axis reference.
Other words, always perpendicular/parallel to the path,no matter what the +/- path.
        Attached .skp "turns" along path.
Hope that makes a wee bit of sense 😉
        Apologies per file size. 😳

BTW,thanks for all your great scripts/hard work.

This is the olde flat extrude issue.
The profile will twist as it extrudes using the follow me tool.

Al Hart had something started, but bailed before it was completed.

I guess just too difficult to finish for him perhaps.

Sure would be super to have this in hand as it would be useful for roadways, handrails and probably a bunch more.

          Next ??

The twisting is a part of followme. To keep it flat needs a new followme writing, which would be too much for mortal man - when he's not getting paid !

this is what SU has been lacking for too long a time.. lucky Erez made that little gem called simuterra..still it would be great to have a tool that combines extrude along path and follow me and....... stays put at the same time.

wouldn't mind paying if such a tool was conceived

come on folks let's get the collection going!

Charlie, maybe you should post this in the SketchUp Wishlist Forum.

no but seriously (insert seriously smiley) - all these geniuses... the @last folks came up with follow me, stamp and create mesh...great ideas, remember?

now i think the kindness and generosity of these masters has been beyond words.. ...very... grateful

..to have a 'driveby' plugin where you can lay a path on a terrain and have a profile follow it while keeping the car flat on the ground... wuooh (missing a smiley again)

...to see some of these sirs work together to such achievement... TIG, Didier, Hal Rick and all those others...perhaps we could organise a ruby base camp in a warm resort where they would work in leasure (while we make sure they don't just go surfing)

the labourer deserves his/her wages ...who would buy this tool?
