I had to put this in the 3D Warehouse because it's too big (4 Mb) for Sketchucation. Here's the link:
    http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=60d9463800d7c7dc44c9501442354102

I have had a previous version in the 3DW for several months. I have now added a chin rest to this version, since the absense of that appurtenance seemed to disturb people more than I would have expected, and I was told that because it lacked one it was actually a viola, not a violin. Whatever.

I filled in the f-holes and colored them black, not because I couldn't easily have left them open but because when they were open the inside of the fiddle seemed unnaturally light. Turning on the sun helped by creating shadow inside, but I don't think you're supposed to leave your violin sitting out in the sun. I mention this because the filled-in f-holes were the subject of criticism to the effect that it was somehow easier to do it that way.

        That is awesome!!

I used to play the violin when I was in grade school. Yours looks exactly like my old one.

        Good job!!

Gully, you could also either paint the back side black or in the style editor set back faces black for that matter.
But I like the filled holes as weel since they fulfill (no pun needed) what they are for. And the violin... And the volute... And I've known it and liked it...

Lovely job. Which programme did you get the wood texture from.
            Thanks
            Alan.

Alan, it was part of a collection of wood textures called More Wood. I forgot where I got it, and frankly I don't even remember if it was originally called that or I just called it that. I do remember my name, but that doesn't really help because I don't use it here and it's not relevant anyway. The violin is painted with a texture with the catchy name "Maple78."

I converted the collection to SU6 .skm format when SU6 came out. I have attached the entire collection of 45 wood grain textures in .zip form to this post. I hope you find it useful.

I'm curious, did you use the soapskin ruby plugin to make the body of this fine violin?

                    looks great btw!

Sorry, Will, I almost missed the question.

No, it was pretty much hand-stitched.

                          Thanks,
