[Plugin] IGES Export - 27 February 2012
-
Rainer,
I just tested this plugin by exporting a model and then importing into SolidWorks 2014. It worked beautifully.
Thanks so much for providing this most useful tool!

Hi Guys,
I'm new to Sketchup and I have been trying to install the Iges exporter but it doesn't seem to work.
I have tried several methods for the plugin install.-
Unzip and moved the "iges_export.rb" to the plugins folder: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Google SketchUp 8\Plugins".
-
Change the extension from "iges_export_V0.7.zip" to "iges_export_V0.7.rbz" and install it with the extension installer withing Sketchup. It says that the install was succesfull but I can't seem to find a way to export to IGES.
I am using Sketchup version 8.0.16846 Pro.
What am I doing wrong? -

Hi Rainer,
I just installed your IGES Export plugin and exported a couple of parts. However, I can't see where they exported to. They don't seem to be in the Sketchup folder, or anywhere else. I've searched for IGES and .iges on my computer, but nothing comes up.
Please help!If you can help, please can you email: bren@brendan-power.com
Thanks! Brendan

Hi guys, i need your help with this , I am not succeeding in saving my model to IGES file, I am a computer engineer, but i never dealt with these software in my whole life.
I installed the plug in , and I do the save as IGES..but i always get an error saying: can't save file.
Any one can help me by emailing him my file and trying to export it as an IGES FILE? -
If you post the whole error you might get a better response.
Also run it with the 'Ruby Console' open and report any messages that might also appear there...Remember that it only exports manifold solids - so if you have Groups/Components that do NOT include 'Solid' in the top bar when you Select them and use 'Entity Info', then they won't export using this Plugin...

Dimension Problems
I have a sketchup model design in centimeter.
When I export the model to igs then the dimensions in the igs model are by the factor 25.4 bigger then in SU.Tests:
--> Open the igs file in FreeCAD then the dimensions are the same as in SU.
--> But when I send the igs model to a metal manufactury they tell me that the dimensions are by the factor 25.4 bigger then it should be.It looks like ther is an conversion problem of inch to centimeter.
Any idee what's wrong? Do I have to make any setup in SU?Regards Peter

HI everybody
I have a question about dimension when I export a SU model with iges- export.
My model has rectangle tubes. When I make an igs export of the model then the dimensions in the iges model are by the factor 25.4 bigger then in SU. (If needed I can also proviede a skp example)
Reopen the iges file in FreeCAD then the dimensions are the same as in SU. But when I send the iges model to a metal manufactury they tell me that the dimensions are by the factor 25.4 bigger then it should be.
It looks like ther is an conversion problem of inch to Centimeter.
Any idee what's wrong? Do I have to make any setup in SU?PS: Beside the dimension problem the export works very good!

This download is not an rbz file it's rb. How do I get it and how do I install it???????????????????????????????

Always check for any Plugin's updates in the PluginStore.
There IS an RBZ version available there:
http://sketchucation.com/pluginstore?pln=iges_export
However, it is quite old and not been updated for some time, so use with caution... -
Just wanted to let everyone know that this plugin still works! I am using an older version of Sketchup, 2015, but still it did a nice job exporting my Sketchup model. Thank you for this very useful plugin!

It's not a .rbz file!

I beg to differ...
The PluginStore's version IS an RBZ archive.
Inside that is an RB file... -
Hey, i'm a little confounded. Could anyone please help me?
I did just as said in the article. I downloaded it and pasted the .rb file in plugins folder but i didn't have any new option in tools menu or any other place!
I really need this, your help is greatly appreciated.
-
Can I suggest you download the RBZ file from the PluginStore.
Then use the SketchUp native Installer.
Perhaps restart SketchUp to ensure everything is set up...If the tool loads properly it should appear in the Tools menu as "IGES Export"

hi,
looking up ruby file, it allow to save only selected grouped part. but the results still save all object in the model.

@diredjo Hey there,
Not really a new user, but couldn't get my old creds to work. I posted a thank you on 7 Dec 2014...
I've drifted away from SketchUp for a myriad of reasons, but I have a file that I would very muck like to get into an IGES format.
I've used the tool to create the file, and unfortunately nothing will read the IGES file. Not SolidWorks, FreeCad, etc.
All crash to desktop.
I'm running ketchUp v2017 (the last downloadable version?) and the latest IGES import tool.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi there,
thanks for this great plugin.
And sorry for reviving such an old topic but I figured out it won't work if you have some annotation in your model (took me some time to find this out).
The error occurs in copyEntities (around line 120 in the code) but I don't have the knowledge to modify the code to avoid such an unexpected behavior.
Maybe someone here could improve the code ?
Or at least point me on the good direction ?
Even if I know nothing about ruby coding...Cheers and thanks for reading !
