    Hi folks,

    Long time no see.
Facing a problem or rather trying to gather ideas how to make a model of a tree included from 10cm rings welded side by side?
As it will be rendered from distance only then easiest way I can think of is to make a simple 3d model, subdivide & texture it with fredos UV-tool.
Just curious if there's a plugin that could help me doing it in proper 3d? Maybe some plugin tutorial hint?

    Cheers,

I think you need to first generate a voronoi mesh then instance the ring.

There used be an extension called TGI3D that had a type of surface generation that would be useful in this scenario.

If you are limited to SketchUp then your approach of using a texture would be optimal. Especially if the object is to be viewed from distance.

If you need actual geometry you could use Blender and it's Tissue addon to place a torus on every face

        Tnx Rich,

as using Thea for rendering then just (for testing) made really simple model of tree trunk as Instance base & used "ring" model as instance & basically that's it. Probably have to play with thickness of instances & have to create a better base model to get the proper shape of tree but otherwise does the job good enough.
My Q was pretty much for the interest if there's an easy way to do it in SU with any kind of plugins & from the point of getting smarter in SU. You're never too smart in SU, are you? πŸ˜„
Will try those suggestions You offered as well just out of curious. Thanks for that πŸ™‚

        Cheers,
