      Hi all,

Long, long time user of Sketchup here and one thing I cannot comprehend is why no ability to export image aspect ratios other than your viewport ratio has ever been included.

Surely I can't be the only person on earth that might want to export let's say, a square image?

      Rant over.

I am sure a while back I found a workflow or plugin that allowed me to get around this very bad limitation, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was, or how I did it.

If any of you Sketchup wizards would be so kind as to share your methods, that would be very much appreciated.

      Many thanks in advance,
      Chris

Pretty simple workaround, resize your window and export.
If you need an accurate ratio, draw a suitable rectangle in the model and carefully bring the window sides into it. Either hide or delete the ratio rectangle and export.

I usually don't worry about the aspect ratio of the exported view. I'll crop and resize it to what I want in my image editor. I find that is easier when combining different images, too.

There are a couple of extensions that will resize the viewport to whatever aspect ratio you select.
          Start with Eneroth Viewport Resizer2.

Yes, that is what I do too, but he seems to want a native aspect ratio export. Which would be easier and quicker if he doesn't want to stuff around with image editors.

Yeah. So Eneroth Viewport Resizer2 makes it simple to get the exact aspect ratio desired.

I think I'm getting a bit 'Old School'. I really don't need a plugin to resize a window.
( And possibly getting a bit cranky too πŸ˜„

I'm gonna go raise this to next level nerdery....

I have a AutoHotkey script that resizes the active window to 800x800 if I press CTRL + F9 and to 800x600 if I press CTRL + SHIFT + F9

                  https://i.imgur.com/2Iw810e.png

It actually resizes the active window to 816x746 but because of app borders and toolbars the viewport is precisely 800x600

Download the free D'oh Book for SketchUp πŸ“–
