On the other hand this is the first time they've ever had a price increase for the subscription but prices for everything else have been going up all along. Less than a dollar a week. Passing on that increase to clients shouldn't be noticeable.

But for those of us who do not have "clients" they are pricing themselves way to high IMO. Since I am now just a hobbyist, I can no longer afford it so am kind of stuck with my 2020 version.

I got that email too. The thing is I don't use the web browser, ipad app and all the other knobs and levers they offer.

I just use the OG app. I wish they had a standalone license or subscription without the junk.

            this.
looking at the list, to me (I'll stress this strongly, TO ME), trhe following is useless.

            Web
            mobile viewer
            ipad
            layout
            3d warehouse
            connect
            predesign
            xr viewer

all that to me is junk....

As a hobbyist using SketchUp 2017 Make (according to your forum profile), the change in the subscription price has no impact on you anyway.

                Dave, Thats the Point

where's the incentive for me to pay a sub? hmm? I see a total lack of development in the application other than minor bug fixes. The current pro app is basically the same as the Make 2017 version, and that only differed from the Pro version in that a couple of plugins were omitted and different export options. Something the community fixed...

but, I'm coming to realise, that SU is not my future for modeling now. Don't get me wrong, I love it... but I have to move to something more exacting for 3DPrinting. (an actual CAD solution).

but for quick sketching, I love SU.

Evidently you have really kept up on the changes made since 2017. There's no way I'd give up the added features but them I'm using SketchUp commercially and put those added features to use. You've already indicated that for your hobby needs you don't need those features and that's just fine

More exacting how? I have no issues printing precisely dimension parts from my SketchUp models. As an example see my thread in the 3D Printing forum regarding 3D printed screw threads.

I know that you've just edited your profile to now indicate you are using a Pre-2013 Pro version.

                      We'll just agree to disagree.

This is what I do. I have a dedicated computer for Sketchup Make 2017 because I've gotten so handy with it that I would hate to part with it.

I get it that software maintenance is expensive, and an aging product like Sketchup is likely to fall down the priorities list for a company like Trimble. I looked at their financials page (linked on their website) https://investor.trimble.com/static-files/d848716e-e452-4d46-9606-ac7163a309c7. I'm not an expert, but it looks like they are raking in ~1.5B per quarter after expenses. But yes, the price they are asking for an updated version of Sketchup is too much for my little pocketses.

If I was a bazillionnaire, I would buy Sketchup and open source it. I can only dream tho...
