      Can all tags listed in the Tags panel be selected and a common color be applied in one click....or must each tag be handled one at a time?

        This can be done through the Ruby Console.

        First make the color you want, e.g.
        mycolor = Sketchup::Color.new(255, 0, 0)
        The three numbers [0..255] set the mix of the Red, Green, Blue values - here it's all 'Red'.

        Now reset all of the tags colors...
        Sketchup.active_model.layers.each{|e| e.color = mycolor }

        Note that 'tags' are still called 'layers' on the Ruby side !
        You cannot directly apply a 'material', it must be a 'color'...
