I an running a single NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1080 8GB. I would love a NVIDIA Geforce GTX 3080 but it is out of ny budget. However I could afford another NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1080 8GB in tandem. Would that be of value, would it be a reasonable option?

What is it you want the extra power for? Rendering?

How would you cool it? Will your PSU be capable of running dual GPUs?

I would favour a single 3000 series over dual 1080s. RTX and Ampere architecture is fast compared to Turing. I moved from 970 series and 2070 series 2 years ago and the difference was massive in terms of rendering speeds. The newer 3000 series cards are beasts compared to 2000 series cards.

Userbenchmarks has the 3060 TI as the best ROI

I'm no GPU nerd though. But dual 1080s for me would mean more headaches in terms of power consumption and heat management.

Thanks Rich, and all good points. Botom line is I would want to render with twinmotion to get a bit of a buffer. But just found out that Twinmotion would not support rwin GPU's anyway. So I will hold out until the technology matures and crypto minning is less profitable if it ever does
