VRay Swarm Problems
-
Thanks for reply andybot. For me, it works only after a daily dose of troubleshooting. In V-Ray 2 I had no such problems with distributed rendering, so I'm still wondering if I'm maybe overlooking something. If someone else uses Swarm also, please write if it's working for you or not. Thanks everyone.

Yep. Some days it works. Some days it doesn't. Same file, different days.
WTF, Chaos Group?Swarm UI doesn't work today.
WTF, Chaos Group? Please lets just go back to distributed rendering.

In my case the swarm works ok most of the time, sometimes the administrator has to reset the dongle but we get it to work eventually. My problem is of a different kind. When rendering some materials that have a bump map, some of the render buckets are showing lighter than others. The darker ones are always from the host machine but usually one or two out of seven render nodes that we have are showing darker too.
I'm still not 100% sure if it happens with all the files/scenes/materials but we get that a lot. I tried turning on only the render nodes that rendered the same as the host machine but then again some of them render lighter. So far if I wanted to keep the bump maps the only solution was to render the scene on host machine only, but than we get a lot of render time for final renders. The other, more common case, is that I turn off the problematic bump map and render the scene without it using all the nodes we have...
btw...I use brute force for primary rays and light cache for secondary...

Yes, happened to me a few times also. But it wasn't a consistent problem. It usually happened when the rendering was very complicated and it would just forget to transfer some files. Check render log to see if there are any warnings of missing maps. Make sure the main machine isn't busy with some other task, let it focus only on rendering. And make sure your connection is solid and stable, with no interruptions. Sometimes my router would disconnect and then the files wouldn't be sent to render node.

Another version another problem Cant get Swarm to work on the new 3.6 release - I feel my vray knowledge its getting to ninja level just from the amount of trouble shooting I spend on it. Its failing when transferring the new version to the node. Anyone know how to manually send this to the node?

Managed to get all the nodes working a while back seemed to be an issue with the C++ libraries not getting copied over via the swarm - So anyone that bumps into that issue make sure you go to MS and grab all the C libraries for each node. There are multiple releases for year and 32/64 - Ivan from CG agreed with me that they probably should just have a combo one...
I have a new problem. Most of my jobs I have multiple scenes with incremental changes in the range of 5-30 scenes. I'll also note that I need very quick turn around on revisions. I have 10x 24core nodes. I'll admit that I have not set up proper file mapping but I have a 10Gbps LAN which "should" make up for the file location fart. Now when I batch render with the system as normal the render will finish in 2-3 minutes and save to directory but the progress bar on the frame buffer seems to tick along as if its only using the local machine. It can take up to 1hr to move over to the next scene. I have been bugging CG for a solution for about a week now with nothing resolved so far.
Any Ideas for a gypsy fix guys? These turn around times are killing me.. and my clients are starting to get pissed.
our set up for a better picture.
Meraki MX64 router/firewall
Meraki wireless APs - not really relevant.
all hooked up to a Netgear prosafe 10gbps switch.
NAS with SSD cache connected at 20gbps
All the nodes are ESXI VMs connected to the same switch @1Gbps.
2 Workstations are both 6core i7 with 64/92Gb RAM NVME SSDs 1080ti etc... -
It would be so nice if CHAOS GROUP GAVE US A SOLUTION, don´t ya think? My V-Ray Swarm is basically working whenever it feels like. Also tried everything I could think of. It is very unstable though...

Hi Guys,
I thought I would revive this general issues thread. I am really struggling to keep swarm running for a team of 3 of us. Between windows updates completely destroying CAD software and the nodes just deciding not to work on any given day.
Is there any way to set a list of static IPs for the swarm nodes. My nodes drop in and out all the time on the network - I would like to blame the multicast discovery. Like the old version can we just assign a list of static IP address that way we remove the discovery process. What I am asking is there a way to access the IP list that the multicast discovery compiles and fill it out manually??
At the moment if I log into any particular node they will all show a different combination of other nodes on the network page.
I had it working flawlessly for about 2 months and over the past 2 months its slowly dropped off again.
Cheers

Yeah, it works good for some time, then some phantom problems appear without evident reason. I don't know, try writing to Chaos Group forum, I'm not rendering very often, so I can't tell if I'm messing up the settings, or Swarm just isn't that good. But I feel I shouldn't be a professional IT technician to set up something like that. I think the Swarm is the same for 3ds Max also, so maybe look for some answers from those users.

How to connect two PC for vray swarm render... Please make a simple tutorial video on this and upload it to youtube and send the link here or ar.arunchauhan@gmail.com
And tell me is there required a internet connection for it or not if we connect via LAN cable? -
I don't think anyone is going to go through that effort to make a tutorial for you. But you should turn on swarm option in your render settings, install V-Ray Swarm on your other computer(s), run it, make sure all computers are connected to same network, hit render. That's the basics, but there could be many different issues, try and see. Write if you run into a specific problem.
