Blender forum in sketchucation

I usually hop from sketchup (make) to Blender, and it is rather painless, apart some quirks. Blender accepts .dae rather well. Instead I've had problems with exports from Sketchup to DAZ Studio, which is strange, since both programs use .dae as the default format. Any idea?
I'm betting only part of the model comes in.
and I'm thinking, you make your models multi coloured...? and I'll say of you keep them default white they load fine..
yup ran into that when I tried it. seems (from my limited understanding) SU puts out a DAE with each colour as an object and DS has issues with the way it's doing that.

Pilou, are you saying (showing us) that Blender has the ability to print documents like LayOut?

Well I am 4 days in and having lots of fun!

No, for the moment it makes "easily" (depends of users skill animations of parts of Bim files!
But sure that in a few times, it will be capable! -

Do we have a subforum yet!? I want to discuss pros and cons of obj vs. dae format import. Nice intro video you linked Solo, glad to see they are finally taking seriously the UI compatibility with other software

I just bought Chip Walters Blender video course and so far I'm enjoying it.
Much info in a short time so I'm sure I have to go back to remember everything.
Recommended.
Right now there is a reduced price also. -

Something to keep in mind, all software, just like any analog tool, is only as good as how well you learn how to use it. The correct hammer and chisel in untrained hands will reveal a driveway from a block of marble instead of a David.
Some of us just need a driveway ( I could use a new one, concrete not marble). And a forum is helpful for learning how. Not much help in getting a David though (I'd need a TON more to get there myself )

Hey all,
As many of you may know, I have a course that takes you from modeling in SketchUp to rendering and animating using EEVEE (Blender's realtime photorealistic renderer) in Blender.
It's at https://gum.co/EEVEE
Also, here's one of the lessons from the course which may get some of you started. It's on IMPORTING from SketchUp to Blender while keeping the proper scale units.

Don't know if it's indispensable...because collada format seems working...
(i see that Premium SKetchucation members has a cool reduction) -
BlendUp is no longer available.
-
the main problem is, DAE is a poorly supported format.
no no! hear me out!
there's plenty of apps that write DAE.. but damn few that read it.
but there's plenty that do read OBJ - it's the almost universal 3D format..

So what is the best way to move my models to Blender 2.8?
I tried .dae and only parts showed up. I also tried fbx but got a message in Blener 2.8 that it did not support fbx.

See my YouTube video above. It walks you through all the settings.

@chipp, are they planning to add skp to supported import formats?

I've been consistently using .obj export for years with good results. I find duplicate faces and lots of other problems with .dae
You can use AutoDesk's FBX converter to convert to a different FBX format that will import correctly. I forget the details as I use it infrequently, but it is possible.

We are still waiting for Rich O'Brien to create the subforum, I do not have admin rights to do it.
