Cannot snap to Profile Builder objects
-
Hi,
Something I have noticed in my short time with SU, is that when you cut a section (say a horizontal section through a houser to create a floor plan), an item that I have pulled from Profile Builder (steel hollow column) that has been cut, the cut plane of the object cannot be snapped or inferenced to.
For example, the section plane cuts through a steel hollow column. The top of this column at the cut plane cannot be snapped to at all.
Normally this has not been a problem, until I take over to layout and try to dimension to it, and cannot get an accurate dimension to edge or centre of column, because I cannot snap to an edge or centre.
This seems to be a pretty big issue, so I am assuming that there is a way around this, which I am currently unaware of.
Need some guidance here. Thank you.
On another note, my triple click has stopped working.

Hi pilou. Thanks. Yes, that would work I guess, but I'd still have trouble inferencing to a centre to draw that diameter in the right spot?? I just seem to think its a band aid solution for a process that should be a no-brainer for it to work. It's a lot of extra time for dumb work.
I'm wondering if it's a profile builder issue?

Section cut edges in SketchUp are not snappable geometry. They aren't edges at all in the SketchUp sense. This is not specific to Profile Builder objects. When I need to be able to snap to an edge or endpoint at a section cut, I use TIG's Add Section Cut Face. The faces it creates have edges which may or may not be hidden as you wish.

Thank you Dave. I will give this a go and report back.

Draw a temporary diameter ?

It works great. Exactly what I was after. Thank you Dave. Thank you TIG.
