Issue with duplications of styles in Layout
-
Hi,
I've had a trawl of the forums and this issue has been talked about before back in 2010, however maybe there is some new information?
I am currently having issues with Layout duplicating our styles as we update our model in layout, our styles start to multiple and we end up with for example: OOF SEC1, OOF SEC2, OOF SEC3 and so on (see the attached image https://imgur.com/a/SFaFZIP ).
Is there any way to avoid this? On multiple occasions we update our model references in layout and anywhere from one to all of scenes will change the style from our documentation style (DOC SEC) to our edit style (EDIT) or our sketchy style for flythroughs (OOF SK WHT SEC), we are really unsure why and how this is happening. Any insight would be very much appreciated!
The part of this issue that makes this issue unbearable is when one or all of the sketchup model windows shift position or change style / perspective. when this happens I need to go through every drawing and re apply the correct style and fix each model window.
We are running Windows 7 and 10, and using Sketchup 2018 and Layout 2018.

Any chance you could share the LayOut file? I understand you wouldn't want to share it publicly but you could upload it to DropBox and send me the link via private message.
How are you updating the model reference? Do the scenes for the viewports show as modified? Do you see more than one entry for the same SKP file in References?

Sorry for the late reply,
Yes I can upload the file, here's a google drive folder link. Apologies, the file has become a little bloated.
As some further background on what may have cause this, we were using a app called cross reference orginizer. This app essential functioned as an automated importer and updater for when you split your file up and import one file into the other. We have since abandoned it since version 2.0 broke the app and the devs made no attempt to fix the bugs. This is the website for the app, https://www.lasuapps.com/ .
LEN-DD 1 is an amalgamation of 3 seperate files, I have a feeling the cross reference orginizer might have had something to do with it but I'm not 100% convinced.

Looking at the SketchUp model, I see those duplicated styles, too. I think you can be confident that your cross reference organizer application is the culprit. If you simply purge unused styles, you'll get rid of a few duplicates. You would need to go through and manually do the rest but it won't be that difficult. Find a scene that uses the duplicate, select the original version of the style and update the scene. When you get all finished, purge unused styles again and you should be down to five styles in this model.
I would suggest that for the following scenes, you set the style to Hidden Line with white back and then reselect those scenes for the viewports on the last two pages. Don't let viewports show the scenes as modified. SEC SHORT 2, SEC LONG 5, SEC SHORT 4, and SEC LONG 4.
As for the file bloat, you're right. The use of duplicated styles doesn't help but in addition to some unused styles, I purged what you see below.
Keep in mind that components and materials you may have had in the model space but deleted or replaced remain as part of the SketchUp file. Styles you might use but replace will also remain. Since it sounds like you are combining multiple SketchUp models into one, I would recommend purging unused stuff from the files before amalgamation. Purge Unused from Model Info>Statistics is a good single step method. I use TIG's Purge All because I like to see that little report window to have some idea of what was purged. It's also undoable. I have a keyboard shortcut established for it and run it before closing a file.
